BLOWN PISTON RING I THINK. NEED HELP!!!! STUCK IN PHILLY!!!
Ok i bought this turbo civic with a b18c-1 engine in it. the guy said when i got it that one of the rings was blown.l Based simply on the fact that there is oil on the one spark plug. Based on this I ordered new rings and a friend was supposed to do the job. he took most of the enigine apart and now he is nowhere to be found. I have no clue what im doing. this is my first honda. I need to get this back together so i can get it back to LA where i live. Im in philly now. What I need is either someone in the area who knows how this who can do the job, or instructions on how to do it myself. To be honest im not 100% sure that the ring is bad. I was told that sometimes when you put synthetic oil in these cars it causes blowby. is there any truth in that? The former owner stated that it only started doing this after he put synthetic oil in. Can ANYONE help?
The only time synthetic oil would go by the rings would be if the rings haven't seated or the rings are bad. You need to stagger the rings when you install them. I'm sure someone will post a little diagram. I've seen them on here before. Hopefully you can find someone to help you set up your rings and throw that thing back together for you. I would take it to a shop personally if I was you.
Haynes/Chiltons manual for $15 at auto parts stores will tell you how to replace the rings and put it all together again. I should know, I hydrolocked my engine and replaced a bent rod in 2 days, never tore an engine apart befor that, and all is well 30K miles later. Good luck to you and I hope the guy that left you in this situation gets kidney stones.
