Default Big wheels = bad acceleration?

Guys,

checking out some wheels, looking to get 17's, possibly 18's how big can the wheels go before losing acceleration on a ITR?

17's OZ Leggeras wieght about 7KG (just the wheel) stock type R wheels are about 7.5Kgs, but more rubber on the bigger wheels, I was hoping it'll all equal out, ie. bigger wheels than stock but about the same wieght.
http://www.ozwheels.com/r26.html

The wheels come in Grey, White, and Gold.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't go over 16" on a ITR.

i contemplated the 17x7 superleggas back in the day, but i', sticking with the stockers, two sets. Since they weigh close, you shouldnt feel too much of a difference, but maybe due to the larger diameter, ie the weight being further from the center therefor more resistant to movement. i may be wrong though.

do a search. there were some great discussions on wheels in the past. But to summarize, the best wheels for performance for an ITR would be lightweight 15" or 16" wheels. For looks, some 17" wheels look nice without too much of a degradation in performance (if the 17" wheels are light enough). I think 18" would be overkill unless you are doing an import show thing. I hope this helped.

Unless u want bling bling or you are on the european tour where 90% of them use 18's.

Any extra weight in the wheel/tire combo is gonna be slower.

any increase in overall diameter will be the equivalent of elongating your gearing. http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...e_diameter.htm

I had a Dukes of Hazzard big wheel when I was little and I could get it going pretty good.

the weight of the wheel isnt a problem.

its the tire on the wheel thats the problem.
...or the driver behind the wheel that's the problem

As for the tire, I will say that running 225/50/15's up front does hurt acceleration due to the added weight and slightly increased diameter. If it weren't for the added traction they provide, they would be all bad. As for wheel size, the total weight isn't the only part of the equation. A 15lb 15" wheel will spin easier than a 15lb 18" wheel because the weight is closer to the center of the wheel on the 15". Big wheels make room for big brakes, that's about it.

I wouldn't go over 15'' on a ITR. Just a taller tire changes the final gear ratio quite a bit, not to mention the extra weight. Big wheels are for show, not performance.
