Default gsr vs turbo single cam

kinda stuck in a dilema.
im currently rockin a stock gsr with some boltons. but its got some high mileage. about 150k. i usually dont bring it above 6k rpms anymore.

now i could pretty much get rid of it and go for a turbo single (ex). since the singles cost alot less id be able to push on it harder.

this is going in an eg hatch by the way.

I personally wouldn't get rid of the GSR motor you have now. And certainly not for a SOHC (turbo or not).

I would just rebuild the GSR motor.

yeah if you didn't have anything at first I would say it's cheaper to make power with the SOHC turbo, but since you already have a GSR, just take care of it and rebuild it. Less headaches.

I smoked many GSR swapped hatches in my d16z6 turbo...

Plus, my car is a coupe and the engine was stock other than headstuds and a clutch.

I say, go with a d16z6, get a T3/04e .48ar turbo, tune it to 12psi, and go out and smoke people.

If you have the money throw some forged internals in there and crank the boost up.

This topic has been covered millions of times before though. There are threads with pages and pages of people arguing over this topic. What it comes down to is what you want.

Fix rebuilding your gsr motor and building a turbo for that out of the question?

my car is daily driven and i pretty much need it everyday for work/school.

well if i rebuild the gsr i probably wouldnt wanna go stock internals so its going to be a little more costly then that. plus the time to build it. would prob take a minute.

i can get a complete single vtec right now for 200. (complete running swap).
then i could sell the gsr head, plus b16 tranny, plus other parts for turbo money.

SOHC Motor $100-$500
Sleeves $700
Pistons $500
Rods $300-$400
Turbo Kit $2000-$4000
Hondata $700-$1000
Services + Tuning $500

Adds up to 7,600 and should put out around 300 whp and maybe 200 pounds of torque at 100% on 20(+-) psi

Rebuilding your GSR would cost about 7,000
it would push 300 whp and 200 pounds of torque at around 50% on 10(+-) psi with potential of 400+ hp at 100%

Would you want a maxed out SOHC or a GSR that is not even peaking yet and has room for more?

How about you don't touch your car at all and wait till you're done with school to get something better?

Best option right there.

I bet every one here that just says 'oh, just rebuild your motor, or swap some pistons' has never rebuilt a motor, or knows what really is involved in it.

You could def build a turbo D to kick the living **** out of an NA GSR, and for less. Build a turbo kit and do all the management yourself, buying a kit is for ppl with more money than brains.

But honestly, 150k on your motor isn't that much.
