Default crx turns on then shuts off?

it happen yesterday, i was driving home, pulled over to talk to a buddy.

when i got back in my car and turn it on, it went on fine, but then it died, so i turn it on again and the same thing, on the third time i held the gas (the car wasnt holding its own idle?) for a lil while then the car was able to idle by itself. any ideas? also my radio was shutting off anytime a deep bass note was played( i have subs). i dont know if there related but the both happende the same day?

1989 crx si
313000 miles
i think the dummy at the lube sspot put 5w30 in the motor

Turn the key to the on position for a few seconds before starting it, and it should get you by till you can figure it out.

Could be the o-rings. Smell the injector rail, and let us know if it smells like fuel.

listen for the clicks from the Main relay. Mine used to do this. I just swapped my relay for a new OEM one (77$!!).

Car would start fine in the morning, then while driving if i shut it off (say to fill up on gas) then go to start it it'll start up and just die right back down. A few cycles of the key later and she fires and stays running.

This also may happen if the car is parked outside on a hot day in the sun.

next time it happens, watch the CEL, it will turn on when you first turn the key, then it will turn off (after 3 sec or so). there should be a little click when it does, if not, the main relay is poop.

stop for gas...car wont start again....hot day.....hmmm.....sounds very familiar

ahh yes the joys of the MAIN RELAY.... another fun piece on our cars: the IGNITOR

other than that our hondas are pretty hard to disable if they are cared for.

as for the alternator comment, i could see the radio or amp dropping out if it has a low voltage cut out function built into it... but i dont know why the car would die... since the battery should buffer the bad alt enough to keep the ignition going.....? .. unless its bad too

ya I decided it would be better to use an EG one in my car, so i found one at the junkyard and had to re-pin the plug that came with it, and no problems whatsoever since then oh and by the way it was free instead of $77 for something that might possibly break again

as far as I know, they had revised the previous ones so they wouldn't break

just make sure you understand what you are doing when you depin the plugs, make sure every color wire goes to the right spot.

soyou guys think its the main relay? i had pulled it the other day it had a lil rust on the solder. btw if i wiggle the connector by the fuel filter that is filled with dialectric grease the car shuts off and the main relay start clicking like a ****. today it seems to be fine except for low idle under 500 rpms at sometimes.

i just got my alt rebuilt like 2 times. funny thing is when they use the batery checker thingy it says it cant read? but with the probes it reads 14.5?

before u go and buy a main relay. take off ur gas cap and try starting it. you may just have a bad gas cap. i had the EXACT same problem and replaced everything (distributer, relays, fuses) let us no if that fixes the problem

it is your battery, not on tight, or a power wire is loose somewhere, happeend to me, sometime car wouldnt start, sometime it would turn off cus my subs also. when car didnt wanan turn on at all, i would open and close my passenger car, and i would have juice. i might be wrong, but for me, that was the problem, battery.
