Generaly the inspector (I use to be one) will look for prior accident damage, mismatched paint, poor repairs, cigarette burns/worn interior, alterations to suspension/engine, door dings, cracked or stared glass, missing interior pieces. They dont usually drive the cars however they will start them up and check that everything is functional. Generaly if you took care of the car than you wont have much to worry about. If your lease is almost up a company called ITS will probably call you. This is the company I use to work for that Honda of America contracted to do the inspections. Unfortunitly your in the hands of the inspector.

i do have several dings on the car, how penalized would i get if i left them there?? also what if i made a cut to the lower bumper where the exhaust tip was, its actually a clean cut and cant be notice until you look underneath the rear bumper, do you suggest i get the dings fixed now?? how do they work out the damage to the car ie, the dings and maybe that cut on the base of the rear bumper (exhaust tip) section
my lease is up in december of this year how many months prior to my lease end when they call, do they look at my car just once or once 5 months prior then another time after i return my car
i went with a friend who dropped off his leased 96 integra about 2 years ago and the guy from the dealership gave the keys to a tech who looked the car over for about 20 seconds, drove it around the block and was back one minute later. gave him the thumbs up, 5 minutes later the paperwork was done and we were on our way.
the car has a few noticeable dings in it. the stock intake resonator was taken out, the wiring was all jacked from about 10 different stero's that had been in the car, and i think it even had a failed inspection sticker b/c of tires, tint and brakes.
