Any particular reason why you want to add a type-s intake manifold to your base? What mods do you currently have? The reason I ask is because the gains will be minimal. Probably not worth the money or time to install it. People generally add a bigger/better intake manifold after installing a set of aftermarket cams to increase the intake of air. A lot of type-s owners, including myself, install the ITR intake manifold once installing a new set of cams. The gains are still minimal and only help out above 6K-7K rpm. You also need to tune for the increased intake of air, otherwise, you wont see any gains.

I think one of the reasons he might've been asking this, is because the Si engine, which is also a K20A3 comes with the Type S IM. It also only makes only 160, so that would just second your opinion of only minimal gains being made. But the Si, usually gains more hp from bolt-ons, etc. The base, just makes better torque. This is another reason, I would like chunky to get his cams installed on a base RSX motor, to see the differences in hp/tq on that platform.

Does anyone know if there is any way to mildly port a plastic manifold, like the one that comes on the Base RSX?

Well actually I am to do a type s head swap... I am just researching what will be needed in order to do this. I am going to start collecting parts and stuff. You guys think I should go with the ITR manifold? What about the throttle body? What else? ect blah blah whatever you wanna type

You're going to do an A2 head swap onto an A3 block? Honestly, the A3 bottom end isn't built to withstand the rpm's that the A2 longblock is capable of attaining. You're better just swapping out the A2 longblock, but while you're at it, you might as well get the Type S tranmission as well, 6spd with much better gearing. But in looking at it, the real question comes out, why the hell did you get a base?

I wouldnt get the ITR manifold if all you're going to do is an A2 head swap. The ITR manifold is only going to help you if you get cams (ITR cams, Crower, IPS, Toda, etc). As for the throttle body, you can have your stock one bored out and port matched with the ITR intake manifold (if you end up getting it), but you're not going to benefit much from having a larger throttle body either. But the little things can add up depending on your final setup. If I were you, I would wait on those parts. Get your head swap first, then get the type-s intake manifold. Then you can go on from there. Might want to consider working on the bottom end of the motor as well in the future.

Although building the block is recommended, its not completely necessary. There are lots of base owners to have the Hondata #4 reflash and other supporting mods and rev up to ~8600rpm and experience no problems at all. Just don't do it constantly. Its not IF it breaks...its WHEN it breaks.
