Laser Jammer?
I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with laser jamming devices, particularly the kind that have components mounted in the grill. I just got a ticket the other day and my radar detector is only good for telling me that i allready have a ticket if the cop is using laser. Any thoughts? i know this isnt accord specific, but this wont be seen anywhere else
I used to have a radar detector. I still got a couple of speeding tickets. The I thought about jammers, and all that stuff. Then I decided it would be easier to just slow down a little. Of course thats just my opinion. I don't think any of those jammers really work anyway.
they have variouse jammers in the UK... all illigal over here in the u.s. but ive seen them and they were effective.. but if you fly by a cop and his rader get jammed he's gunna suspect something and just pull you over.. i think it would be to hard to get one over here.. you best bet is to make one... the ones ive seen befor are diy.. they use the idea from an automatic door opener.. the kind that constantly send out a signal so when you drive up to your garage the door opens for you.. those have been modified to send out a signal that jams the radars.. but all of that is a lot of work. check online for sumthing fromt the uk.. try to ship it over here.. most liklely its expensive.. really illigal.. and will get you in prison
Save your money. There have been all manner of proported "jammers' since the first days of detectors.
Even if you were able to find one that actually worked, you'd get a ticket / fine for having it. I'ts not like microwave radar (where it samples multiole cars), with a laser, the operator litterally 'paints' the car he wants to sample. If you've got a valid jammer, it's gonna become REAL apparent to the ossifer. And there you are, pulled over anyway, loosing whatever time you gained by relying on that sh..t.

I started this same thread last week, let me go find it.

Nevermind, it seems to have fallen off of the General Discussion forum forever.
Basically, the only real options are the Bel Laserpro, Escort Shifter, Blinder Xtreme series (though they will have a new model on the street before too long), Lidatek LE30, and soon Antilaser will be bringing a promising product to the US from Croatia. They do work but they aren't perfect. The heads have to be mounted dead level, they MUST be mounted in the right location, and you have to be smart about using it. The LED-based jammers have a hard time at distances over 1500 feet and under 200-300feet. This covers the vast majority of laser encounters but you still need to be careful. Imperfect mounting renders them nearly useless. Jammers based on laser diodes are more expensive but also more effective due to extremely high power output (Lidatek and Antilaser). The laser diode-based jammers are also much less obvious because the heads are tiny compared to LED jammers.
They are technically legal in most states but I don't know how long that will last. Personally I would get one if I insisted on speeding everywhere but I would be very careful about using it. If you get hit you need to slow down to the limit and switch the jammer off so that the officer can get a reading, preferably within 2 or 3 seconds of trying to clock you. Otherwise you stand a good chance of getting pulled over and grilled.
Do a search for something called "Laser Veil." It's not nearly as effective as a jammer but it has been proven to reduce targeting range to the point that it might, in some circumstances (targeting over 700ft), save your butt. It's also much cheaper at ~$90 a can which should last a long time. Plus it will never throw a "jam" code on the laser gun.

Radar jammers are illegal per FCC regulations. You can not transmit harmful radio interference, and the penalty is up to $50,000 plus jail time. This does not apply to laser jammers since they transmit light in the IR part of the spectrum. Laser is regulated by the FDA, not the FCC. There is no federal ban on these devices. However there are some state bans. VA, DC, IL, MN, CA, and UT(I think) have outright banned them and there may be a few others (CO?). Most states do not have laws on the books that explicitly ban these devices.
However, if you do a really good job of pissing off an officer he may decide to charge you with "interfering with the duties of a police officer" or something of that nature. I don't know if it would hold up but it could easily ruin your day.

Antilaser can't be bought in the US just yet. They are still in the process of doing all of the paperwork and garbage that it takes to import their product. Their corporate website is pretty useless (foreign language) but here's a link to a recent test of the pre-production unit as well as the Blinder and a few others.

You can also click the link in my sig and search that forum for "AntiLaser AL6" which should bring up loads of information. They posted a video of it in action which might still be there somewhere.

I've had this site saved on my favorites list for a while. It's very thorough and explains there's no such thing as a RADAR jammer (dectector is good nuff anyway), but there is a such thing as an effective LAZER jammer. Lot of specifics on this site explaining everything.

Radarbusters is a great place to get equipment. Radardetector.net is is run by the same guy and he's definitely a class act.

He got a ticket a couple weeks later & asked the cop how? Cop says "I've been driving behind you for 5 miles..."
Which begs the question which needs to be asked, do you really need another distraction flashing and beeping on your dashboard as you thunder down the public throughways. Lord knows, us geriactrics driving at 80 mph are aggrivation enough.
there is really no reason to have a detector if you drive at any speed under 75. Most cops will not even bother you now a days if you are doing anything uder 80 on the interstate and you are in a rural area (known drug routes excepted)
When you come to a populated area it is always a good idea to slow down since there are usually cops trying to get their quota.

I have an escord passport 8500 and i love it. It's just a detector, but it works great, and it's saved me a couple times now. I was looking at the escort series laser jammers, but i realized something. In the year or so that i've been using a radar detector, i've been lasered TWICE ever. the cops around here don't use laser enough to make it worth it.
just get a good detector, like the 8500 or V1. the 8500 has kept me out of a few tickets so far, i've only been pulled over once with it. i saw the cop turning around as i was coming at him, and said o ****, and looked up at the radar to see that it had been going off but i was too busy rocking out with soundgarden with the radio up loud. i took the radar off the dash before he pulled me over. i explained to him how my speedo doesn't work (the truth). he was nice, and explained that he couldn't let me off without a ticket for 22 over, so he wrote me a ticket for unlawful speedometer.
next time, i will use an earbud with that detector, since it has a place for one.

do you have the passport 8500 or the 8500 x50? the x50 is the one i kinda want because i hear its the best. its a little pricey tho considering i got mine on sale for 50 bucks and it still works ok. is the 8500 comparable to the 8500 x50? id get the older model if it is because its probobly cheaper, cant find it for sale tho
Well I mounted mine on the passenger visior so that it doesn't distract me and so that it remains hidden at all times. I've learned to ignore it in the city and can tell when there is and isn't a cop without ever looking at it. It is comforting to know that when I do look at it the arrows tell me where the signal is coming from.
The only real difference between the 8500 and the 8500 X50 is that the X50 has POP detection (67ms bursts of K or Ka radar designed to defeat detectors). Some argue that the older 8500 has better range on normal Ka radar but I don't know if that's really true. Either unit would be excellent for most people.
