what year si was this engine from.
Hey guys/gals a friend of mine bought a 98 civic with a b16a swap how can i tell what year si (obd?) did the engine belong I need to buy a b16a ecu but not sure what obd it needs. currently running ap72j (gsr ecu).
that doesnt really help cause whoever swaped could of used either tranny. That ECU you just mentioned is a OBD2 ECU. So there you go, it's OBD2
but still engine itself could be obd1 originally and they could of changed dizzy and engine harness. But most likely its a obd2 also, much easier to do and more available

Yes. One of the circles will say 96, or 98, or 00, etc corresponding with the year
If the VIN on the block matches the VIN on the head then it's original motor
You can also look up the year with the VIN. You can look up the month and day the car was made, what city it was made in, and more.....
