Engine block painting?
Hi guys,
Im painting my b18c1 block with this high temp silver, its rated to 1200 F but it comes out really shiny i dont like it. So i clear over it with this high temp clear, but this is only rated to 500 F. Does the engine block ever reach temp above 500 F? Thanks!

Why the hell would you paint your block silver?? It already is silver, you could have just had it cleaned and you'd have gotten the same result. I can just imagine how shitty it looks..lol..oh man, people crack me up!!
whats your deal? I want a straight answer. I did not paint it yet, for your info I did my tranny and it looks sick. The block is NOT silver, your just a retard, its flat gray. The silver i spray on it is a shiny silver base and then cleared to give it a duller flat glossy gray. I just need to know if it will hold until 500 F.

wow..that is quite impressive..anyways i was reading that auto paint is good for 400-500 F and its used in the engine bay so a high temp 500 F paint should work well on the block.
it will be fine...however, the ***** that i bought my car from decided to paint the engine silver as well only he's so "smart" he didnt even use high temp paint so now its all burning off/peeling..not to mention it looked like **** painted with a rattle can....human stupidity knows no bounds
it should work... all the big block chevy guys paint they're motors and ****. all those muscle guys do this all the time. go ask a local domestic shop and they'll point you in the right direction. i haven't really seen this and i wouldn't personally do it, but go for it if you want. it'll be something original. and if you do decide to do it, post up some pics. i'd like to see it.
i actually just bought a block that was painted already. It was painted new ford grey. I mean it looks pretty good, but the normal metal look is the best thing you can have. Im thinking on stripping the paint off but that is going to take a whole **** load of paint thinner. I think you need to keep it looking like it came from that factory. Atleast you dont want to paint it "jdm red" lol. That would be a sad sad day. And im sure some one has done it too. lol
The iron block domestic guys paint their stuff to prevent oxydation. Our alumnium block won't oxydize so no need to paint. It hurt heat dissipation a little and eventually it will chip off due to wear and tear.
Just clean it.
Just clean it.
