OK, so the head that I have for my build isn't in the greatest shape. By the looks of it, it at least needs a valve job, which is gonna be ~$250 at the machine shop. I don't know how many miles are on it, so I am considering changing out the springs also. I am planning on just using the OEM Z6 cam, so I was looking at buying a new replacement OEM valvetrain, but I can get aftermarket valves cheaper than what I can get the OEM ones for. On the other hand, aftermarket springs and retainers are much more expensive than OEM. So, my questions:

1. Can I use aftermarket valves with OEM springs and retainers?
2. If so, should I use the OEM valve guides or whatever brand valves i get?
3. If I should use OEM, should I consider replacing the guides with new OEM ones while I'm in there too?
4. What are the better valves for a turbo Z6 (no P&P on head, wiseco 8.5:1 pistons)?
5. Does any company offer flat-top valves to try to get back some compression?

I just checked on the price for OEM valves for a Y8 head (I have a Y8 head laying around in similar shape as the Z6) and they are MUCH cheaper than valves for a Z6. they are also cheaper than aftermarket valves by about $50. should i spend the extra ~$50 for aftermarket valves, or just stick with the OEM ones?

 

What do you plan on reving to ? That would help out with seeking an answer to your question.

planning on stock revlimit (7200). i just want to know if aftermarket valves will work with OEM springs and retainers. i'm assuming that they will, i just need some reassurance.
