My GS-R has 4 bent valves......need some help!
So I let some people use my car one night and the next day my idle was really rough and the car seemed like it was going to stall. I took it to Acura because I have the 100,000 mile extended warranty and Im at 78,000 miles. They opened it up and said it's 4 bent valves, which they said was probably caused by the engine over-reving, but he said the timing belt was off a couple clicks or something. Then the Acura warranty inspector came and took pics of the car and then I just got news from the dealership that they denied the warranty claim, saying that the damage was caused by over-reving and modifications to the vehicle. The dealership already said they would charge 700 for taking the head off, but the only reason I went through them was so that warranty would pay for it. My question is whether there's an argument I can use to fight this so that warranty covers it, such as the timing being off, which is what the service manager said he tried telling the warranty inspector. I still have not talked to the warranty people myself, but I think they tried to say that the timing was off b/c of the over-rev. And I'm also wondering whether to have acura fix the valves now that they've opened it up or if it would be better to just buy some valves and have some import shops I know install them?
Take off all ur mods and take it to another dealer.. Make sure all screws and bolts are put back to stock (non missing). And if u don't have the stock stuff get tought with them and make a big fuss about it and you should get that under warranty. I know cause i work for a Acura dealership..
I would try and make your friends pay for it.
Generally speaking YOU messed up the timing which was not caused by a faulty componet in the engine. YOU are at fault.
Thats what the Claims sees.

1. Don't ever let your friends borrow your car
2. Take all the performance mods off, and bring it to another dealer
3. If that doesnt work, make your friends pay
4. If they don't pay, shoot their kneecaps out for ******* up your car.

Those are really some friends, i say make them pay for it they fuked up if they borroved ur **** and cant respect it well then those r not really good friends.... and why did u give ur car to someone for the night without ur supervision anyway??
Bug the hell out of them, threaten them with a lawyer, and make them pay. They have more than enough time and resources to do it, and it pisses me off they are constantly riping people off.
Then tell your idiot friends that caint drive that the dealership wouldnt pay and make them pay also. Then you actually have the car fixed and they money your friends gave you. You deserve it, go for it.

Yeah I know I shouldnt have let these guys drive the car, cuz they're more like friends of friends, and they say they didnt misshift or anything, but I'll deal with them later. For now though, the only mods I have on it are basic bolt ons, CAI, Headers, exhaust, wheels, suspension. About putting the stock parts on and taking it to another dealership......would that still work since the warranty inspector already came out and took pics under the hood and of the whole car, so wouldnt they have record of that? Also the stock parts are in Orange County which is like 150 miles away, so I'd rather not do that unless I knew it would work.
Maluco, since you work at a dealership, is it the warranty people I should argue with or the dealership people, and do you have any tips on what to say to them?

if your car is pretty much stock, which it is because it's just bolt ons, you can look up the magnuson moss warranty act. basically they can't deny your claim unless they can prove the aftermarket modificatons caused the failure. if you suspect it's because the timing belt slipped due to a defect and not because buddies f-ed up your car, you might find recourse.
personally i thinnk you should jsut sell me your head and get a new one. (wishfull thinking) or you could make your friends pay for it and as dc24me said you cant get introuble with warranty unless they prove that your aftermarket parts caused the dammage.
reading your story makes me cringe. im really sorry to hear about this, sounds like an awful situation. i hate warranties, i hate insurance, and i hate friends. good luck man
If you are interested my dad owns a shop in OC.
He can do a head job for you probably around 700-1000. Thats with new valves (the ones that are bent) head resurfacing, etc.
Let me know if you are interested.

I see this all the time, kids bringing in there cars (mostly rsx's ) now cause there still under waranty with blown engines and guess what, they all get a new engine under warranty.. When the custumer demands they warranty it the advisor will call the acura rep to take a look at it. 90% of the times the dealer will cover it and the other 10% the dealer will pay the parts and the custumer will pay labor.. Depends hoe u deal with them.. By the way deal with them profesionaly if not they will throw u out.. As per the pics it don't matter if ur not conforatable take it to another dealer..(by the way we just did an rsx-s with cai,exhaust,v-afc,etc..)
good luck
