Default built head or block?

which would be a better gain? building my block with some high comp pistons or leaving my block stock and getting a valve job on my head with some cams?

if u got an R head than build your block...if your never gonna have the money to do both build the block...that way if ya get lucky and run into some money you can at least get a set of nicw cams...

why don't you try some itr pistons and some ctr cams? that should be a nice power gain. now if you wanna just go all out on just one of those than, if you want a fun street driven car and don't normally go into the high rpms, than build just the block, but if not, do headwork.

The head makes the power, the block harnesses it. So build accordingly.

Like this man said if your going to be reving high build your bottom end. you can always come across some good used cams and parts to do your head.

would be bad you would be around 11:5.1. But for the amount of a type r head you could build a b16 head

if u plan on building an lsvtec i would suggest building the block first. if u want it to last long u should get the crank balanced, some new bearings, arp rod bolts and if u have money why not change the connecting rods, and some type r pistons. that should be good. and once assembled get it tuned cause thats where it all comes down to.

Compression is useless without enough airflow.

stop with the type r head, u don't need one! u plan on building this, so that means you won't leave the r head stock, so why bother buying it when u can just build a b16 head. look around on h-t. you can usually find good deals on complete heads already ported with upgraded valvetrain.

high comp block w/ type r cams should be around 190-200whp depending on the tuner and compression..

well if u plan on upgrading cams on the type r head, ur gonna wanna rev higher to make more power with the bigger cams, so you will need to buy new valvetrain if you wanna be safe. that is why i think spending money on a type r head would be pointless for you. Be patient and keep an eye on for sale threads, you will find good stuff.
