Helping a freind out
A friend at school has a eg cx. A shop told him that he will have to replace his radiator soon. Is there any sure tale signs that will show this? Will looking at the coolant tell me anything? Also is his can prewired for a clock/tach/or rear wiper? He also has been driving around unknowingly with a toasted valve cover gasket that is letting oil drip down the side of the motor head. How damageful to the motor is this?
best way for the rad is to pressure test it and see if its leaking. Cant really tell from looking at the coolant unless he has a headgasket blown then it might show some oil mixed it.
As for the clock, yes i believe its all there, just plug it in. not sure about rear wiper but I assume yes.
valve cover? well if he hasnt run the oil low then it shouldnt be a big deal except the mess of cleaning.

clock is prewire, rear wiper is not (but why its ugly with it on) and tach is prewired. preasure test your radiator. I bought mines but being a snap on guy I paid arm and leg for my tester. if you wanna buy a radiator brand new I can sell you one for $95 shipped and you can replace it yourself. It only takes 15 minutes to swap out. Its so easy
correct pressure test, oil, and clock. There are also all the wires for the tach plug and play and easy. As far as the rear wiper you will need the stalk, wiper motor, associated wires, and ICU from and car that had it dx and si. Some people delete it. I have it and barely use it but it's useful when I do.
thanks guys, is there anything visually to check for on the radiator? Maybe looking at the coolant it self maybe a certain color or something or viscocity?
No. Unless you can see white cake and coolant in one area usually at the top or bottom seam. Then you must use a pressure checker. You should be able to rent or buy one at an auto parts store. Just check around.
