Default serious grinding when i let off accelerator in my s2000......

hey everyone...
i'm a new s2000 owner (year 2000 55k miles and all stock except wheels) and i'm finding that when i'm driving and let off the gas, as the car slows there is a loud grinding noise. and i mean loud.
it goes away when i clutch or accelerate.
i searched the forum for this issue and i've seen people talk about shifting up in these cars, but never a grind from the coasting/slowing that i'm experiencing.

i know only enough about cars to get into trouble so can anyone help?
i can always walk into the dealer, but if i already knew what was happening it would save some time!

thanks to anyone who can help!

Grind or whine? It does whine a bit, even on a new car.

i'd come across the term before but it seemed to be only related to shifting UP rather than down. apparantly direction doesn't matter

sounds like i'd better make an appt and get the clutch checked out!

thanks!!!

This is a common S2K problem. It sounds like a loud rattling/grinding noise. The older the S2k the more prevalent it will be. I have that with my 01 w/14k, and there is not much you can really do about it. Have the clutch inspected, I know there is a service bulletin but good luck having Honda pick up the tab on that. I'm still negotiating with them on mine and my milage is very low. Let us know if you find something.

I have the same noise with my ap1. When i first bought it, i thought something was wrong until i did some research on s2ki and found out that our tranny's are just loud while decelerating

i scheduled an appt with the dealer tomorrow to have it checked. i'll let you know if they decide to help me out on the cost - but i'm not holding my breath!

from what i've read, people have been able to get the buzz/grind noise taken care of, leaving only the normal (noisy) whine. is that in line with that others have read?
