To all the N/A 11sec ET drag racers out there!
hey all,
My friend is in an interesting dilemma, and I thought you guys could help out! A bit of background information - currently, he holds the N/A four-cylinder drag record in the country. 12.95@102mph, which is no mean feat compared to US standards, but given the current N/A tuning scene here, and the condition of most of our drag strips, that is indeed an achievement. What's more, is that it was accomplished in a B18C EG4 (yes, EG, before anybody jumps on me) with around 155 whp, in an 800kg car. Then again, we *do* have a 9.4sec GTR.
A picture follows..

Anyways, the off-season is coming up, as we are heading into the winter season, being in the southern hemisphere and all. He's had quite a few lucrative sponsorship deals from engine builders, wheel manufacturers, and such, but he has decided so far to decline these offers. He has his reasons why, but primarily, it's because he wants to keep the car privately owned and funded, for somewhat of a personal achievement. I think, in his own words, he said "I don't want to be making 11sec passes on somebody else's motor..." Take note that he's a mechanic for a large European luxury car dealership here, so he's got most of the mechanical know-how sorted.
His plans are to run into the 11's next drag season, and he has about 6 months to build his civic for the next drag season. So what I'm asking, is that to all the people out there who've put their own blood, sweat and tears into their N/A drag cars running 11sec ET's, what do you think he has to do next, taking in mind he's working on a budget? Thanks all
Current modifications:
Hondata teflon intake gasket
DC Sports 4-1 extractors
Re-chipped ECU/Launch control module
Bilstein shocks, locked rear.
15x8 Arrow's Wheels - M/T ET drag slicks (22 x 8)
Carbon fiber hood
Lexan driver/passenger window.. gutted doors
4 point chromoly roll cage
To come:
Lexan rear hatch window/rear windows
Custom extractors/exhaust

here's another pic... quite old, this one - he hadn't gotten the Lexan windows and carbon hood back then...

Yep, it's a B18 block.

there is still so much he could do to get the car faster. JUN 3's or Toda B's or C's. Higher compression and a differant intake manifold if he is using a GSR SIR-G or whatever you guys call them there.
I would first get a Hondata Stage-4 if he doesnt already have one.

What sort of record are you talking about? I've seen several local guys in AZ run 12.6's at 115-119MPH n/a. Doesn't A lude' engine stroked to 2.6L hold that record? As for the setup, skip on an intake manifold and use quad-throttle bodies with a built B20 block.

We have a lot of cars here runnnig hondata - they don't seem to post similar results here? Take note that Hondata was developed by Derek in NZ..
Import? Heh, we get the h22a vtec here just by going to a honda wrecker's. There is an H22A CRX, but that only posts 14sec and unverified 13 sec passes. It's a strange world down here.
We also have a near stock DA integra (G2 XSi) that runs a 13.3 ET.
The exhaust system? Well, it just runs through another resonator, and a straight pipe after the secondaries/flexijoint.
edit: oh yeah, I forgot - he has a short ram intake. As you can tell from the photos, he races with the right headlight removed, for the ol' "Ram air flow".
JDMSirG - Not sure if I follow you about that comment about the extractors? Sorry, that's what we call them here. Kinda like how we refer to a "valve cover" as a "rocker cover".
Isn't "headers" plural though? Wouldn't you need more than one cylinder hed for that to make sense?
C5_ALLMOTOR: Thanks for the link! As for bigger slicks, he has already tried larger Hoosier units, but can only manage a 13.1-13.2.
I'm not sure if he's too keen on any engine transplants or such, I'm pretty sure he wants to retain the B18 block.
quad throttles are a good suggestion! Anybody who has posted so far have time slips to prove their suggestions? Would love suggestions from people who have been in a smiilar situation, and achieved the same results as what he's after!
He just doesn't want to splash out on cams, pistons, valvetrain, whatnot, without thinking. Lighter? more power? We've had guys down here with big power motors but no results...
I think his exact words were.. "I want to fly to the USA, go to a drag meet, find some joe schmoe who's built a 11sec FF N/A civic with his own hands, and ask him what he's done to his car." .Thanks guys for the help so far.

how about engine blueprinting? use that engine and start from scratch. every nitch that can be done to bring out more horses. IMO
You can only make the car so light, and you can only make so much power NA from the engine. It will probably require both to make it an 11 sec car with that motor.
Just depends on where you want to put your money first.
