89 si tranny in an 86si???
I have an 86 crx si with a bad tranny and I just so happen to have an 89 crx si transmission in my basement. Will the two make love and live happily ever after or do I have to get a first gen tranny?
are you %100. An import shop in the area told me that it'd work. I would just tear it out and find out for myself, but I have limited time at my work to experiment with it.
I am 99% certain..I believe the mounts are in the wronf place, and the bolt pattern to the engine block is different....now as I have never owned the earlier generation I do have a 4th gen civic and I have read threads about swaps with the earlier ones...wait and I know you will get other answers today to either confirm or contradict my answer.
i beleive, not certain, that the tranny in ur 86 si is like the tranny in the first geN integra......... its a d series tranny with an intermediate shaft
From what I hear the 88-89 integra d16a1 swaps directly in the older crx's, so maybe the transmission will fit too? Might be a stretch, but could be worth checking out.
Screw you guys, I'm... going... home.

I just HATE it when some asshat tUnArZ tell people **** like that without knowing and then they spend a grip of money only to find out the guy was completely wrong. Anywho, I am 100% sure that your 86 tranny has a different bell housing bolt pattern AND different tranny mounts than all 88+ trannies.
And regarding what others have said about 1g teg trannies, yes they do have the correct tranny mounts but their bell housing bolt pattern is unique to 1g tegs, so you can swap a 1g teg tranny AND engine into an 84-87 civic/crx, but you will need a few other bits and pieces to make it work. Read the FAQ at http://www.redpepperracing.com if you want to know more. (Note: there is one little known and rarely used exception to what I have stated in this paragraph. 84-87 4wd civic wagons have a unique engine block that is like the other 84-87 blocks except that it has a 1g teg bell housing bolt pattern. Why? I don't know, ask Honda/Acura. I suspect that they were using an off-the-shelf JDM/EDM tranny and didn't want to change it. Anywho, you could use an 84-87 4wd block with a 1g teg tranny in your car. I believe a road racer on this board did that because the teg tranny was stronger and he could get an LSD for it.) Also, check the classifieds on rpr as trannies are pretty common.
