Default 5th generation turbo?

ive heard of some people doing this.... is it worth it? whats the maximum boost levels a stock f22b2 manual transmisson can run? also some people made thier own turbo kits out of stock manifolds and mitsubish turbos is this a good way to go?

is it better (and cheaper) to run nitrous instead?

i am also 16 years old and i have limted money........ i can do any of the other stuff either with my teacher or neighbor or boss ( school autoshop, work).

i have a few modifications in my car right now:
aem short ram intake
progress adustable coil-overs
enkei 18-inch wheels
aluminum radiator
cat-back exhaust
apc racing seats

thanks

worth it?... depends on what things are worth to you...

you should be more concerned about the engine than the manual tranny.

std/hx stock manifold w/ adapter plate or dsm mitsu manifolds dont work with f22b1/f22b2. if you dont have atleast $1500 to spend then forget about turboing.

i ran nitrous for about 2 yrs, its great and all but the power isnt there all the time, even with my remote bottle opener i still had to wait for the bottle warmer many times... and bottle refills will add up over time. only reason i stuck with it so long cuz i never had a good chunk of change to invest in turbo setup and went with a quick fix. but now that i have sold all my nitrous **** and im slowly parting together a turbo setup i cant wait to get boosted.

do alot of researching and look into engine managment first.

^ i agree with race, nitrous does get expensive over time, but its definately fun.

You are screwed in terms of cheap turbo manifolds, a good option would be to switch over to the older SOHC F22Ax heads, they flow much better bolt right on, and the dsm manifolds bolt up. Get a F22Ax head, h23 intake manifold and throttle body, and parts from a dsm to start your kit. It should be alittle cheaper to do the F22Ax head and dsm parts instead of finding stuff for the f22b2, and you'll also have a better flowing head and larger intake manifold (which means you'll make more power)

16 years old, worries me. i wouldnt even give myself a turboed car at 16. make sure you can drive your car at 130hp before putting anything on the car.

fwiw, you cant use the dsm manifold. the tranny will be fine, cant say the same for the clutch though. engine good for 7-8 psi. mitsibishi 14b or t25 turbo will work but a t3 is better.

as raceaccordingly said min. of $1500 doing everything yourself.

but id think thats more work than its worth when you can just get a f22b1/2 manifold.

haha its not that much work, its just a cheap better alternative then using a very restrictive f22b2 head.

u said 1500 all work my self how much can I save going into the f22ax head? Are the parts easier to locate? Will a stock intake manifold and throttle body fit from a 1995/1997 Acura 2.2 cl? (Honda donated a r&d version to our school)

With the restrictive air flow I can solve that by having my auto shop teacher port and polish my heads for me

if I go turbo.... i think ill use hondata as an ecu upgrade
i also can get a turbo timer/ boost gauge/ blow-off valve for free (turbocharged car in the auto shop 1993 240sx donated)

man its like an automotive junkyard at my school! murrieta valley high school

the f22b2 head only has 32mm intake valves. the f22b1 and f22aX heads have 34mm, the ports are also designed better on the f22aX heads. You would not be able to use that intake manifold from the CL, but the throttle body would work on the h23 intake manifold. I'm not saying you'll save money by switching heads, it should even out, but if you search around you can find a f22aX head cheap locally and an h23 intake manifold (much larger plenum then f22aX and f22bX manifolds). With the parts you already have, a dsm manifold, maybe a dsm intercooler, crome or uberdata for management (freeware), internal wastegate turbo, and then im thinking your shop my have a welder so you could make all the piping yourself to also save money? You can probably find used oil lines here on H-T, just look around for used good parts and you could have a decent set-up and still cheap. You are young though so be carefull if you do get the car turbo-charged, everyone i knew in HS with a turbo car totalled it.

i think ill stay with the stock f22b2 head

as yardy8301 said get a manifold for the f22b1/2 i think ill do that

hook it up to a mitsubishi turbo....use the uberdata software...blow-off valve out of the 240sx...the turbo timer and i found out i had an heads up display unit on it for the boost...ill port and polish the heads....use a 25-shot of nitrous(dry)....get the stock mitsubishi intercooler....and do the pipeing my self.....do u think that brings down the cost? and will my engine stand up to it?

I agree with Yardy8301!! With all the respect, and without the intention of offending anyone here.... but .....why would a 16 year old want a turboed car?!.... He wants it so he can street race it.... then... tickets start coming.... and then... booom..... accident.... totaled car and kid at hospital....
Dude... I think you should (...if you want a faster car..) do some minor mods and chill for a couple of years.... until you get some better driving experience.....

Indeed....at 16, there are alot of very worthwhile things to invest your funds in than turbocharging a car....I worry about aftermarket turbos in general....if you ahd went with a stock GST eclipse or soemthing that is a different story....VTec is enough for me.

you might want to consider where you are gonna be a couple of years from now, im a freshmen in college now and as much as i would like my accord turboed, i sure am glad that i didn't blow all my money on my car. I've only been away at college for a couple of months and already have spent ALOT of money. Thats money i have more or less been saving from summer jobs over the years now.

If your on limited funds, you should be worried about having a car you can drive, not go fast in

we should use a turboxs bov man i can get 1 for like 10 bux
accord387 what do we need for a minumum turbo i was thinking

turbo (either dsm or a t3)
intercooler(dsm stock)
hondata boost kit s200
blow-off valve
exhast manifold modified for turbo stock f22b2(can we sumhow make our own?)
random piping (i know a machine shop specvlizes in turbos in temecula)
oil lines for the turbo (where can we get?)

im thinking around 1300 dollars for the install plus get nitrous out of the crashed street racing cars ya? then lets take it to in-n-out get a burger and a drink and make a few bucks lmao

Wow I wish I could turbo my 5th Gen at age 16 =[ I'm so jealous. Since youre 16 I'm assuming your a junior or sophomore? I know in your area gets pretty hot down there year-round. 100 degree weather + turbo = no no. A turbo is hot enough already. Personally I'd tell you to save the money to pay for college and BOOKS! I dont want to discourage you to get your turbo but the money at your age is very hard to come by.
