Anyone ever run at the track with not enough gas in it? Kaboom
In the staging lanes it was a little above E. 1-2-3 gear it was fine going down the track then in 4th it felt like it was loosing power and I didnt really know why. I looked down at the gas gauge and it was buried below E. I get it around to the pits and look at the datalog and afr's shot up to 17 in 4th gear.
Pull #3 plug and the tip is melted and covered in oil. I checked the compression and its at 120. Also a lot of smoke is coming out the breather and dusting out the exhaust. Looks like I melted a piston and some rings. Im gonna take it apart later this week and inspect the damage further.

That sucks hardcore dude. What bore was your motor at, is it useable? I did the same thing to my last motor, 'cept it was on the road course.

I hate to say it, but that is the reason I tell people with big turbo set ups to deal with a little extra weight and dont let it get under a 1/4 tank. Get a little fuel slosh in the tank and go lean and boom.

Damn! Sorry man, I did the same thing june of last year. After the rebuild I ran the rest of the season at about a half tank. Sumping the tank was #1 on the list for 2005.

Yeah, I was having problems in fourth gear even with half a tank when I was running a Walbro in-tank. I was keping it topped off after every pass. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Damn it man... Ive been gettin excited lately and rooting for you, waitin to see that 10 second pass... Sorry about your misfortune, and good luck with the rebuild... Think about it this way, that little extra displacement may give you just the added torque you need to net a 10sec. slip

i remember hearing from more than one person/place that you shouldnt run walbro's below 1/4 tank. i personally have been on less than 1/8 tank boosting and my wideband read a/f was still good.

Man thats got to be the worst way to go out. This is the reason i always run with at least 1/2 a tank. Good luck on the rebuild.

i have actually ran outta gas similar case, im ******* happy that didn't happen..

Damn...
That's sad to hear. It sucks to see a perfectly engine get toasted because of something so simple. At least you know what happened and it didn't just mysteriously blow on you for an unknown reason. That doesn't make it any easier though.
