Default LS Vtec

To anyone who has had experience, besides the conversion kit, what are the bare minimum parts needed to make an ls/vtec last about a year? Has anyone just thrown a stock *** pr3 head on a stock b18 block and noticed anything worth while? If not im gonna just use the whole b16

if you want a reliable lsvtec you gotta build the whole motor.

Agreed, but my current LS bottom end is very strong and i just picked up a b16, If it would just make it for 4-5 months it would be plenty of time to build my other block. Can anyone out there let me know if stock EVERYTHING will gimme 5 months?

if you only want it for 5 months.. and want to build up your other block.. keep the motor thats in there.. and 5 months to build up a block is a long time.. welll if your going paycheck to paycheck then nvm.. but yea just keep the stock motor.. or get somthing way more inexpensive if you want it for only 5 months.. and put the rest of that money towards your other motor.. just wait off so in the end you will be more happy and not blow your money away on what you could of had for the motor your working on now

In search i found opinions, honestly none of which matter to me. Im just looking for some real life experiece on this one. The LS i have now runs fine, the b16 i just bought ran 14.2 in a full trim crx si, i have another Ls bottom end thats already overbored, honed, decked and troughly cleaned, i have the ls vtec conversion kit, and i was planning on march as a finish date for the complete ls vtec build to be done. In the mean time,(***** and giggles. Money isnt the option) i would like to know if that basic stock on stock ls vtec set up will have any benifit whatsoever. Ive always ran LS for the torque factor, but latley a few b16s have givin me good runs in short track situations, but i fear having a no torque set up, thats why the b16 isnt going in as is. Has any one out there done what im about to do THIS WEEKEND? (baring any good reasons not to)

I never said anything about an ls vtec stomping b16s, I stated the my LS was starting to have problems staying ahead as much as i used to. This obviously is going nowhere in this forum, i remember asking this question followed by "FROM ANYONE WHO HAS HAD EXPERIENCE". I never once asked what anyone thought, what they would do, or how to spend my money. If i remeber correctly this is supposed to be an information based forum for serious questions and not a playgroung of (sorry to sound rash) tottally useless opinions. Thanks to anyone who truely tried to help... but the blind shouldnt lead the blind

wether these people who have stated their opinions have had first hand experience with your situation or not does not mean that you can automatically discard there opinions. these honda techers have been here awhile and have seen all the piontless ls vtec threads that ask the same questions, and end in bickering back and forth. for a reliable ls vtec, yes you have to build it. people with forst hand experience will tell you that ls vtec is awesome if you build it right, and will only cause you more money, time, and head ache if you dont build it. good luck with your bone stock ls bottom/b16 head, hope it lasts you 5 months

This is almost funny now. Please show me anywere where i said reliable, then after that READ THE VERY FIRST POST OF MINE: FROM THOSE WHO HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE... Wouldn't that make even the slowest 15 year old kids on here realize "well hey, i dont have any first hand experience in this subject, so instead of trying to be cool and working toward my goal of four hundered thousand posts that just say 'search', I'll just keep my OPINION to myself because it ISN'T factual infromation" I dont post much because I search 10 times per one quesiton I ask, and since every other person who asks this same question with no resolve, I thought maybe if i worded my question in a way that a ******* second grader could understand, Maybe id get an answer. HAHA yea..... right. Thanks

ill answer your question.....listen if you are going to do all ls vtec....buy a b16 swap and then buy the ls bottom end ...the bare minimum parts you need are

Arp Rod bolts
Oem modified ls head gasket
Gsr timing belt
B16 Oil Pump
B16 Water Pump
An oil line with fittings
B16 Head
And preferably a b16 tranny

The smart thing to do is this buy the complete b16 swap and use the water pump ..oil pump...tranny and head...and if u wanna stay all motor put those b16 pistons in the ls to give u a little higher compression and some more horsepower.....o yea and also you need to thread the b16 head and use that little plug to put in the hole to block the oil...and you need a t fitting for the oil line to run to the back of the block...and make sure the oil lines not kinked and its one of those fat *** oil lines....pm me if u need any help..................and to answer your question its defiently worth it to go ls vtec....because an all motor b16 will never keep up with h22's and b20 vtec's they will destroy you.....i mean ls vtec all motor is defiently faster then my b16 then again thats why i went turbo on the b16....i mean i would build the ls vtec and then go turbo if i were u....but whats listed above is what u need to make it work

My lsvtec ran fine for a year and a half. I then sold it and its still runnin really nice in the new owners integra.

it was:
b16 head
b18b block w/ 60k
CTR pistons (used the same piston rings that came out of my b16)
LS rods
b16 oil pump
all STOCK hardware
PR3 ecu revvin 8200rpms

motor made 183whp/136ftlbs

the guy that built it had an LSvtec as well that lasted 5 years on nitrous, his was a b18a1 head with 100k, b16 head, b16 pistons.

people that say LSvtecs suck have never had one, or they "heard" this and that, or HAVE built one, blown it up and blaimed their lack of knowledge on what they claim is a "poor unreliable setup"

I spent about $400 on the block, $400 on the head, $250 on misc stuff and $500 on labor. so about $1500 roughly for everything. car ran 13.9 its first pass on street tires on an 89 si. :D
