Default Serious OT: Security Camera group buy?

Dear fellow R owners and H-Ters,

In light of all the theft in the last few weeks, I was wondering if any of H-T members are in the security camera business (or have a hook-up). I am being completely serious about this sh*t. Can anyone here get a group buy on a security camera setup that won't cost an-arm-and-a-leg? A simple device that will record onto a VHS or a computer would be ideal.

Mods, if this post seems way out please feel free to delete it, but I feel that this is a legitimate topic for all of us. I just can't believe those matha f*cking thieves are picking us apart. Thanks.

Email me, I'm in the business. Tell me exactly what you want and I'll get you a price.

It's about time someone finally realzied to get one. When I go off to FSU in 1.5 years, you can bet on a COLOR security camera hidden somewhere overlooking my car.

Alright, I know this is pretty extreme, and I don't know how you'd do it but...
Would it be possible to have a web cam in say your garage, that is connected to your computer. Then could you send that to a web site that maybe only you knew about? My idea is that if you were gone for the weekend, or something, you could "check in" on your car from any computer.
Again, this is extreme, just seeing if it's possible.

Miguel - I was thinking just a simple system that consists of the following:

1. Camera (B&W or color)
2. I/O receiver (if VCR can be the receiver that would be the best... or as someone suggested an output to a computer/server.)
3. power source (be it AC or self-powered via batteries)
4. Sensor (so it's only on when there are activities?)

I know this sounds extreme, but I want to price these things. Tell us if these things are do-able or I've just been watching too many 007 movies... thanks.

Ya know what? I don't want to make any money off you guys so, I'll just give you guys some links.

All you need is a cam, power supply, cabling and hook it up to your TV and VCR.

Very simple, no harder than hooking up a TV/VCR.

If you need help lemme know. If you live in NY/NJ/CT Area and need something more professionally done, THEN let me know

Here are some links....

http://www.surveillancesupplies.com/...t_catalog.html

Here is a weatherproof B&W cam. $165 http://store.yahoo.com/spytown/gbcbwbalcamb.html

and color...$339 http://store.yahoo.com/spytown/gbccolbalcam.html

They also have some cheaper color ones for like $189 http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bi...m/nsearch.html

Not to take away from Miguel, but there are a few people that have done the baby room cam / monitor set up for when they are parked at home!
Another benefit of this baby cam / monitor set up is it's "portable" so if you're not going home and the car is parked in view of whre ever you're staying... then hook it up and feel a bit of releif.
**As for recording... just like adding a cam to your vcr, some dude even got one of those $69.00 audiovox vcr's with the baby cam / monitor set up and takes it with him almost everywhere for overnight stays... traveling, night out what ever.

As for daily security... a good aftermarket security system is still a good idea, along with a club and / or the piece that goes over the foot pedal to steering wheel.
