JB weld didnt work...tranny
I cleaned the area around the crack on my tranny and let it dry.I let the JB weld dry for like 3-4 days and when I screwed the bolt in it cracked the JB weld.Its holding the fluid better than it was but its still leaking slowly.

No ****, like I've said many times before JB weld is not welding, it doesnt fuse metal and it doesnt hold cracks from growing. TIG welding is the only way to do it.

I had a crack in my tranny from someone removing the large cap at the end that comes off with a ratchet.. It cracked around the thread and back in to the tranny..
I was told to try quicksteel on it.. I followed the directions, sanded it down, cleaned it really well, and continued with how to properly apply the stuff.. I know it isn't welding, but it has held up great to this day.. No more cracking, and no more leaking at all..

Yeah I probaly have to do just that.Replace that housing part.I think the problem is that the crack is right where the head of the bolt tightens down at.so it tears the JB weld off when tighten it.
I did the same as 90civichb except with JBWeld (the standard stuff).. works great. You just have to make sure that you really glob it on there.

Not sure where your crack is, but I was able to fix my trans w/ jb weld. The tranny came out of a wrecked car, the front mount bolt tore out of the trans.
I first took the tranny to a local shop to see how much it would cost to fix. He said that these transmissions are made of pretty low quality aluminum, and that fixing them was difficult. After mandatory hot-tanking and all the labor it was going to be very expensive to have him repair it. I forget the exact price, but it was more than I was willing to pay.
I ground away the original threads, machined an aluminum insert and tapped it w/ the appropriate sized threads. Then used jb weld to hold the insert in place. The pics pretty much speak for themselves, but feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

1) I've been daily driving the car w/ this repair for around 3yrs now including one track day at Streets of Willow, and its holding just fine. Although I doubt that this mount really takes on any serious forces compared to many of the other bolts that hold the tranny in place.
2) I will still be buying another tranny case when this trans gets rebuilt. The JB weld seems to be holding up amazingly, but still, I'd like to have it fixed the right way.

Damn good work.
Its been holding up ok for a week now.ive had to add a little fluid to it.Im thinking of redoing it and using the quicksteel or somehow making the JB thicker and seeing if thats works.

Well, at the time I didn't have a welder, and I wasn't about to pay the local shop to do it (since he was gonna charge a lot, plus a mandatory hot-tank fee).
