mishift 3rd to 2nd took head off and piston look to be in perfect condition, valves dont look scraped up either. Could valves be bent but face not looked messed. Car would pop start and run fgor like 20 seconds when died sounded like was not getting enough fuel but had strong smell of gas. Could valves be bent and not sitting right there for killing compression.
You didn't do a leakdown test before you pulled the head did you?
You can check if your valves are sealing by puting some brake cleaner or other solvent in the port and seeing if it leaks out around the valve.

A bent valve will not seal even a little.Cams probably slipped a tooth or two.Doesn't matter much now anyway,it needs to be fixed.Count yourself lucky that the head didn't fall off one of those valves.
