Hello all. I have a 1996 Civic 1.5 e-vtec LS, 5 door, european model (no idea if this is the same as US), with engine code starting in e11 93/81 (dont know if this info is useful). This is a picture of it:



It has 100k miles and it is running perfectly (that's why I like Honda). Just passed spain's mandatory vehicle inspection with no fault. As of 2 months, I've had a small problem with the fan speed switch.

- Fan only runs in position III and IV. On position I and II it doesnt run.
- BUT when AC switch is ON, and I choose position I and II, I can feel the exterior AC condensator fan (is that how its called?) kick in - so its doing something!

Nevertheless, today I took appart the dashboard (what a P.I.T.A.!!) to verify the switch. It is working well. There are 7 connectors on it:

1 2 3 4
5 6 7

6 is power. 1, 2, 3, 4 are connected to power for each fan speed, and 5 is connected to power on whenever any speed is selected (this is what tells the AC system to kick in, I guess). 7 has no wire going out.

Anyway, after checking the switch and the connector... I am out of options to check. The wires go back into the car, out of sight, and its out of my league - I am not an electrical guru and dont have the diagrams for the car.

Any suggestions on what to check this afternoon before putting it back together? This is not a big problem (as III and IV work) but its bothersome since at many times those speeds are too high. And its the kind of problem I am not willing to pay a guy several hours at a dealership at 35€ each hour.

Have you checked the blower resisters?

 

I dont know what they are...

Educated guess: they bring down the voltage so that the fan goes slower??

Where are they?

And... your answer came just after I put car back together... are they accessible without taking stuff off?

I am downloading shop manuals for the car so that can help me figure out where they are but if you know right away, would appreciate it.

Where are they?

They're mounted on the blower box.
