I can't stand the noise anymore!
I think I need to go back to stock exhaust.
Does anyone want to buy my full "JDM" exhaust system? It includes a Honda JDM 4-1 (ported by SMS), Carsound Cat, T1R b-pipe and Spoon N1 rear section. It is stupid loud if you like that sort of thing.

why don't you just get a silencer off ebay, that's what i did. you can get them for under 20 bux then you can pull it out when you go to the track.

I'm thinking basically the way you are.
The OEM JDM 4-1 header is a nice improvement for the money. I'd just get Dave/SMSP to put a decent Magnaflow silencer on it.

I've never been a fan of silencers. If you're spending the majority of your time driving the car in situations where you would prefer to have the silencer installed, you're honestly better off with the stock exhaust or subdued aftermarket cat-back, rather than having your engine exhausting through a hole the size of a quarter. I could never understand why many people spend a large sum of money on an exhaust system only to choke it 99% of the time, often actually reducing performance compared with the stock system. Of course, if the car is geared more towards track duty, and you're simply looking to reduce noise on the trips to and from the track, that's a different story.

Why go from infinity back to zero? I'm sure you can think of a suitable replacement that will be much easier on the ears but still allow for some nice gains over the stock piece...

I saw something that made me think twice about whether I wanted to keep the ITR. It needs a little exterior clean-up before it can go, and I'd have to put the stock stuff back on.
Also, I'm just damn sick of the noise. I don't track the car like I should, so I'm not really seeing any benefits and I end up leaving the car at home because I don't want to drive it and hurt my ears. So my motorcycle, with a 15.5K redline, becomes my more tolerable mode of transport.
If I were set 100% on keeping the car, I'd sell the JDM stuff and the stock stuff, then have Dave@SMS make me something that makes less noise and probably more power.
I'd make a FS link if I were sure about any of this. But I'm not, just yet. I think around $500 for the cat-back would be fair, and add another $350 for the header/cat.

Slightly off topic:
Does a muffler with an outlep port that is larger than the rest of the piping of the exhaust actually cause any gains over an equal system? Ex. a 2.25in exhaust with a 3.9in (100mm) outlet vs a 2.25 system with a straight through muffler with a 2.25 outlet

No, the tip size will make no difference.

when I bought my teg it had a buddyclub catback and it was too loud for me so i installed the silencer. much much better.. nice deep tone. does it really hurt performance? cause the exit pipe is now the same size as the rest of the piping. the bigger tip makes no difference.

It was, but you have moved twice since then. It's back in the northeast.
