ok, so i go t rosen today to tune the Spec B's a little. Went there before with just intake and header, on stock cams, and put down 169.8 or so (With PS belt off, i've heard anywhere from 5-8 whp for that)... I go today, forgot to take the PS belt off, and the most i can muster out is 163.6...

if i retarded the exhaust gear too much, the car wouldn't start (couldn't lean it out anymore, already at -30% at idle)...intake is advanced a fair amount. Here's a pic of the plot, with a/f readout on the bottom, any help is appreciated.

By the way, i've since fixed the little dip around 3500 rpms.

 

looking at your A/F, it seems to me that you are running on the lean side, try richening up the mixture a bit. I would should for an 11.5:1 to an 12.5:1 A/F ratio.

 

11.5-12.5:1 would be much too rich. You should be aiming for between 12.7 and 13.2:1 across the board.

 

Ya I'd say about 13:1 accross the board.

Either way, yes, your A:F is on the lean side. You should be able to tune it closer to 13:1 w/ VAFC. Then, adjust your cam gears. Black R can give you some setting if you ask him.

John - before you pay, give blackR an IM. He's got about 20 setting saved and his last tune he was able to extract ~195hp/130 lb.ft/tq. Once you get in the 190's, then (if you're stuck) pay to have it fine tuned for 200+ HP.

 

i would, but i mean, every car is different, what worked for his probably won't work for mine. i'll just pay to get it done right.

 

I'm also thinking the dyno may be off a tad, Brian*Black99Si, who had previously put down 154 in his Si, Put down 129 today. only thing he cchanged was he got rid of his AEM. It also told us a couple months ago that bryan sprinkle put down like 150, when he runs 14.1 in the 1/4... i dunno, it's kinda funny.

I don't think there is something wrong with your A/F graph. except for that area between 4,800 and 6,800 where you can correct it with a VAFC. I don't think either it is the cause of your lack of power at top end. You migh need some better tuning for your timming and cams position.

Question: Do you have the recommended Toda springs installed?

 

Hmm, maybe the dyno was re-calibrated lately? (or, need a re-calibration?) Either way, hang in there... should be a 190+ car with the B's.

I was there too and my R with an Icebox and Timing at 18 degrees pulled 166.9hp and 120.3tq. So the dyno seems to have put out some accurate numbers for me.

 

I never said it wasn't accurate, just not consistent. like last time i went when i put the 169 down and brian put down 150, his car was about 4 tenths faster than me at the time. I dunno. I'll take it to the charlotte dyno and let jack do his magic. or steve

I'm going to hit the local shop with a dynojet also. If the numbers are SAE corrected, then the same model dyno should give out the roughly the same numbers. I"m trying to do some research to see if either the Mustang or a Dynojet will give out more consistent numbers.

What was the actual power ? I know when I went to the dyno on different days it would vary a could hp.
