Default Redline

I think someone here told me that the GSR was made to redline daily.. But for some reasons I feel bad everytime I get it to kick Vtec in.. Even worse when I hear the secondary runners hit. Is there a way I can make it so I KNOW I'm not hurting the engine in the least bit? I want to upgrade my internals but with car payments, insurance and all... it will take me awhile to even get new valve springs! Whats a good way without spending boatloads of cash to up the reliability of your engine? Also, when I do finally get the money... What would you guys say is better for your intake and exhaust (Valves, Valve springs, cams, cam gears... bla bla bla) Skunk2 or Crowler? I'm thinking I might go with skunk2... If you dont know or want to guess on this.... dont reply! Thanks!

To help with the reliability, always change the oil on time, do the necessary maintainence like sparkplugs and timing belt. If you have broken-in your engine correctly, there will be nothing to worry about. Improper break in is the reason most of the cars out here break apart before they should.

If you don't feel comfortable going to redline, vtec, or the secondary runners, don't accelerate past 4000 rpm. If you want to know if you're not hurting anything, after you get home, take your motor apart and make sure nothing is bent or broken.

its not very practical to take your motor apart every day. running up to redline through every gear every day is probably not recommended. but I do take my car to redline several times a day, I do not think it is a bad thing. but if you are worried then just do it occassionally...but you know our cars do not make any power in the lower rpm range...it would be pretty boring redlining only once a week.

i've had my Si Integra for 18 months now, and i drive in to the redline 8200rpm evry day several times in the lower gears, i change my oil every 5k, and replace anything thats every needed replacing, my car burn a little oil, but it does no harm so long as i keep it topped up. the vtec engine thrives on revs, they wouldnt have given it such a rev happy engine if it werent able to handle it, so dont worry about damaging the engine, it would only suffer damage if you were to drive it on the redline for long periods at a time.

i feel the same way but the difference is that i'm in vtec in every shift, the truth is that the car is made to be driven that way, and if youre talking about replacing the internals and valvetrain, well you might as well drive your card hard as hell cause for that money you can buy a new engine if it were to blow.

The GSR does love VTEC, and will not be harmed hitting VTEC often... now Redlining is a different story... The stock way to cut the motor during a redline situation is to cut fuel... fuel cuts are BAD. DO NOT REDLINE. Shift at 7900 and you'll be fine... Or get an upgraded OBD 1 ECU such as a skunk2 map etc...

If you do anything with your valvetrain.... STAY AWAY FROM CROWER...

Just look what their products did to my motor...

Hope this helps...

i think my car see's redline everyday especially since i have to merge onto the freeway and I live in so cal meaning everyone on the freeway is going like 90 or something... anyway its a 95 w/ over 100K.. i dont think redlining hurts the motor THAT much... i use mobil 1 synthetic and change my oil and filter every 3K, spark plugs every 10K, coolant flush yearly, valve adjust at 15K, etc.... i know i drive it hard.. so i maintain it well..

I redline my Integra all the time (9100 Rpm, thanks JUN) and It hasnt seemed to affect the motor in any negative ways. My leakdown and compression numbers are excellent and I only go through about a quart of oil in 3000 miles.

Its all a matter of proper maintanance.

If you see the words "Honda Motor Co." on your engine than that's enough to prove your reliabilty. I'm sure you can search around for stories about how people's cars run forever. My '89 Civic Si had 179,000 miles before I got rid of it and my dad's '91 Accord Lx had 191,000 before he got a 2001 EX-L instead. Enjoy your car, don't worry about it so much.

Exactly, if you take good care of your car, you can drive it like it was ment to be driven.

Yeah, you're one of those people who don't wanna drive their Honda engine hard. This is not a Ford engine, they're made to be redlined. Their power is all up top, they know the drivers will use it. Everybody on here redlines their car every day multiple times. You'll be fine. I'd change the oil ever 3k personally though.
