It's the same old story. Now that the EP3 is finished, it's suddenly far more popular than it ever was when it was in production.
I think that part of its sudden cult popularity has to do with how very cheaply the used EP3 are selling for, and the fact that every single K motor performance item you would want to use will fit in the EP3 while providing a theoretically better polar moment of inertia than you could have with the other Civics (all coupes).
You can still always complain about the McPherson suspension if you want, but the fact is that in the daily driving you will not notice a disadvantage and I think that most of us are buying into the safety aspect of McPherson designs, having seen the crash test results and having seen people walk out of EP3 crashes that might have been deadly in other small cars.
Honda also listened to enthusiasts from the track and made revisions to the suspension for the 2005 DC5 Type S, and made further improvements for the newly released FG2.

Why would Honda need a homologation special (Type R) Civic in the USDM? What racing series is important enough to warrant that? If anything, we need a TSX Type S or TSX Type R to help out the kids trying to win the championship of makes in World Challenge.
We always said that if Honda had given us a 200 HP car with an LSD for $19,000 that we would have bought a lot more Civic Si's, and that is exactly what Honda has given us with the 2006 FG2!
HID Headlights: By the way, I have the HID headlights that are shown in the picture of the last CTR. If you can find them from a left hand drive car (usually a German CTR), I can definitely recommend them as a worthwhile option.
You wouldn't believe the difference it makes. The units even come with little electric motors so you can alter the aim of the beams from inside the cabin.

There has to be a reason to build a CTR. Can you think of a reason to build it?
Everybody's starting to campaign the CL7/CL9 in both the N-series overseas and in the World Challenge here, and that's where the focus is.
They have already tried to campaign the DC5 and EP3 McPherson cars, and the drivers and team owners just didn't care for it. One by one, Realtiime, Spoon, Mugen, King, they've all switched to the CL7/CL9 instead of the McPherson cars.

Honestly your understanding of this subject is far greater than mine. So from your post I gather that the reason they build these "performance" cars is because they have to be in production in order for them to compete in a race. CL7/CL9...is that the tsx? So this means no more ctr? What about the DC5-R? I might PM you I am getting off topic...

The first Type R, the DC2 Integra Type R, was originally produced in limited numbers in order to cure some ills that became clear as the Integra rear suspension pickup points began to rip apart under the stress of racing in the N series endurance races.
The first Type R really was a homologation special, produced in limited quantities in a very expensive way that involved a lot of hand fitment.
The DC5 Integra Type R and the EP3 Civic Type R are not excatly limited production. In some markets these cars do have production numbers, but in most markets they do not and you could basically order a Civic Type R whenever you wanted without any doubt that you would be able to get it.
Although for the DC5 and EP3 Honda decided it did not want to lose money as it did with the DC2 ITR, and although you could get one whenever you wanted, they were produced with team owners in mind.
As far as actually winning races, however, the DC5 and EP3 couldn't come anywhere near touching the success of the DC2 ITR. They just weren't as much car in their time as the DC2 ITR was in its time.
The last straw was when the various teams finally started going public saying that the McPherson suspension just wasn't cutting it for them (witness Ichishima's [Spoon's] famous comment about the "van chassis"). Because of the reputation of the DC2 ITR in its day, winning races up to the last, the McPherson cars were saddled with too much weight at the beginning of the racing series, and they were probably doomed from the beginning no matter what kind of suspension they had.

Yes. TSX or Accord, depending on where you are. They are beginning to be really rather successful, and the old Honda people are talking about them like they actually like them quite a bit more than the DC5 and EP3.

The last EP3 CTR has rolled off the Swindon assembly line. So we'll have at least a few months with no CTR production at all.
According to our friend up there, we'll have a CTR at some point, but I am not sure why.

You'll be able to buy a 2006 DC5 Type R in every market where you could have bought a 2005 Type R.
Some people still think that the "RSX" name is finished after 2006. For the longest time people were talking about a coupe version of the TSX replacing the RSX, but now I am beginning to see reports that a redesigned McPherson platform based on the new FG2 platform will be designed to be marketed as an Acura instead of the double wishbone TSX coupe.

Damn neat car. I remember when the first articles on the CTRs appeared in Car magazine. I know all the reasons Honda chose not to import the car, but they still seem incredibly short-sighted. Still, I can't complain too much: the cars Honda brought over sold for ridiculously low prices for what you got.
