Default New Car Mods- - Questions

I just bought a 2005 Accord Coupe LX V6 w/ sport package a few months ago.

I was wondering how you guys are able to mod newer cars - i asked some of the service guys at my honda dealer about adding exhaust and intakes and stuff but they said it would void the warranty completely ... now i'm afraid to do anything to my car.

What do you guys think? How do you cheat the system?

Also i noticed a lot of people saying stuff like '4th gen, 5th gen, etc'. What 'gen' is a 2005 accord?

Thanks

Its a 7th gen. Is you car an auto or a 6 speed?

I wouldn't bust you *** buying stuff like intake, and exaust right off the bat, expecially sine they usually don't yield huge gains, and since your car is new and very little R&D has been put into it.

standard transmissions save you more gas, but oh well. Car looks great, cept its silver =P

Intake and Exhaust sound so great on v6's, although sound isnt everything vs. a warrenty.

my last car was a standard (92 mazda 626) and I hated driving it around here because when you get stuck in stop and go traffic it kills your clutch leg. I'll just say i'm much happier now with an auto

So you would rather have bug marks and rock chips on the front of your car?

he came here for us to help him mod his car, not to get flamed about color/trans/ etc.....use the search feature sitheris, and you'll find out a lot about bolts ons like headers, exhaust, intake....and then you can get to the suspension.....maybe a lip kit (not sure whats available and looks good for 7th gen)

but good luck, and just make sure to use the search and youll find out a bunch about those things

I can't stand how the look on any car but especially on a light colored one. I have come to realize cars are going to get scratches. My car is all scratched up from my dog and my truck has gotten scratched up from tree branches and my dog trying to get out the window. Pissed me off at first but I have come to live with it and they arnt too bad.

I'd go into other things...and omg, this is my first time saying this.

Go for nice wheels and a kit. I swear to god.

http://www.ronjonwheels.com/wheels.html
these wheels are made SPECIFICALLY for Honda and Acuras.

And here's the upcoming body kit sometime in early 2006:

I've NEVER seen a car look that good with a body kit. This guy does incredible stuff with Hondas and Acuras.

With the wheels, get some grippier tires, this will really improve your handling.

Then do the basic lowering with springs and shocks or a coilover set.

If you get a good catback exhaust, like Borla or something, they give V6 Accords an incredible sound.

I've never said anything like this before, form over function, but I think you could do something really special with your car if you wanted.

Anyways that's my .02

Well I don't have scratches, and don't want any either.(my car is black) Paint chips look bad on any color. I'm sure this guy doesn't want bug stains and chips on his new car either.

You guys are worried about bugs? Damn, don't drive then; or ever go outside for that matter. Paint chips can happen anywhere on your car just like door dings, that's why they make touch up paint. You're car is going to get scratched wether you like it or not. Why not just put a big canvas tarp over the whole car and cut holes in it for the windows? Well, because that's stupid and so are bras. They're extremely ugly, rarely fit right, cause the rest of the car to fade and actually be a different color, and best of all... they cause more damage to your car than they prevent. Yeah, that's right, the constant flapping and vibrating in the wind while going down the road is more detrimental to your paint than anything. Not to mention holding in dirt and moisture.

I bet your car looks like ****. Mine looks great, because I care. My bra does'nt flap in the wind, and when it gets dirty I take it off and clean it, and put it back on. And I want to drive my car and still have it look good too, so I protect it. I had my 92 accord for 12 years and 135,ooo miles and the front of the car still looked good. I had a bra for that one too.

Words of wisdom, just because the lip doesnt look as clean as without one. That doesnt matter, they're made to protect the front of your car and thats what they do.

Nice car man, keep up the maitenance and it will last a long time. If you keep the bra on its a lot easier to clean the bugs off and it prvents paint chips on the front end.

Um okay guys ... I bought the bra because I wanted to protect the front. I drive on the capital beltway for 2 hours every day and it's hell on your car. Rocks fly up non stop. About a month after buying the car I examined the front and noticed what appeared to be about 50 or more little rock chips. So that's why I have the bra, if you don't like it, stfu, that's not what I came here to get advice on anyway.

Back on topic, you guys are telling me what kinds of mods I can do but my main concern is how the warranty will be affected. Has anyone had any experience with this? I've heard people say that only the warranty on a certain area of the car will be affected by modifying it, and the guys at Honda are telling me the entire warranty will be voided by making any type of performance modification.

I would not change anything. At least unitil the waranty runs out on it. That gives you some time to think about what you want.

Well, a lot of peeps will put basic stuff on their cars like intake and exhaust, then when something breaks they will put the stock stuff back on, its a lot of work for the exhaust but I've seen a lot of local peeps do that. If you do modify your car, make sure you never go into the dealer with those modifications on, or at least make sure they don't notice your car.

BTW I was'nt dissing on your bra, I respect the fact that you want to protect your baby and there for you have a bra.

The exhaust will NEVER void the warranty of the car, because all it is is piping for the gases to exit. If you have an intake, and it sucks in dirt or water and blows the engine, that WOULD be a problem. They cannot void your warranty unless the part you installed is directly responsible to the failure.

I have had extended warranty on my car and I have an intake and exhaust, and i've gotten over 2k in repairs free (damn tranny problems), and hey never tried to blame me for it....
