for people that have Lightweight flywheel does your tranny grind alot more?

 

I've never heard of a flywheel making any difference. When you shift your transmission is seperated from the flywheel. I'd like to hear others' input about this.

 

No. It has nothing to do with your tranny actually shifting gears. It only effects the power transferred from the engine to the tranny. What weight fly are you running? I am running a chromoly 8.36lbs. flywheel for 8 months now and haven't had any problems. I have never heard of anyone having grinds just because of a light weight fly.

 

nopes... fidanza 8LBer over here. your transmission is jacked up.

 

Never had a problem with my lightweight flywheel and shifting... I think it's just your trans.

8lbs..........when I floor it never grinds kinda wired .........when driving around town I need to let rpm drop down to like 1k before I shift into the next gear

Well I am also running a 8lb and have never had to do this. I think your tranny is what is causing this.

I'm pretty sure its the tarnny too..........

 

I was reading your other posts again and it sounds like a syncro problem. Basically when your rpms are slower (like said before, shifting at 1000rpm) the gear your moving into is matched a lot easier then at 7000rpm. Atleast that is what I undersand about how they work, but I could be wrong. What's your tranny fluid level at? Might want to check that before you go swapping one. It's worth a try I guess.

with lightweight flywheels, you need to shift faster, or give it a little gas in neutral so that the revs don't fall too far while shifting. If you don't, you can wear out your synchros faster.

had a 8lb fidanza and CM stage 1 on my LS tranny. no grinding issues

 

Mine grinds every now and then when I start the car. I pulled out the starter and also took off the tranny and the teeth look fine... I'm starting to think this grinding might be because of the flywheel. My buddy has a 240 and he says a lot of guys on his forum say that it does that in their cars. But if you're driving and something grinds, it could be your synchros, but probably not the flywheel.

I gave it a try doing what u said and it actually does work notice the grinds went away, guess I'm not suppose to baby it and just drive it like I stole it Well kind of

in the long run its better for the tranny if you just give the motor some gas to prevent the revs from falling too far. Its just rev matching, but its not necessary unless you have a &lt;10lb flywheel.

 

i'm at 8Lbs... it's freaking difficult as hell to drive. when i barely tap the gas pedal, it jumps to 2RPMs. everything i shift gears, i have to rev match otherwise i feel a jolt like i'm downshifting.

 

yeah, i've been running a 7lb on my daily driver for over a year now. I would never go back to a heavier flywheel. You just have to get used to it.

I have the same one. I love the flywheel, but yea, it definitely takes some getting used to. Well worth it tho.

I still have a problem with that myself every once and awhile. usually when 1st to 2nd shifting it gets kinda jerky. Usually on two jerks though. I just kind of push on the gas already as I let the clutch in.
