The disadvantages:

1. Filter will get dirtier quicker.
2. Car might be slower due to hotter engine air getting into intake

The advantages:
1. Sounds louder

I take it off for track events... sounds nice

For city driving I leave it on to help prevent hot air from be injested into the motor.

You lose alot in the midrange because of the warmer air, but it does sound really nice. Its not hard to do, so just try it and see if you like it. Ryan

no.

no cover = hot air inside engine bay sucks in the engine = less density = less oxygen for combution = less power

unless you r constantly having high speed and the incoming air velocity is fast enough

Yeah I noticed that Autobahn-driving with the opened intake gives better throttle response from a certain speed on.... But hell, my ears went deaf

Anyway... two or three times a year I open this damned thing to get some grannies shocked, not for racing
