car accident
ok ive been curious about this for some time now, if ur in accident and lets say you have a swapped motor and 1 pc headlights and it all gets messed up will they pay for that stuff, considering since it is oem honda or will they just pay for regular usdm headlights?
Nope they won't pay for **** - unless you tell them before-hand and they'll add money to your insurance rate to cover that stuff........
if you didn't tell them, they won't cover ****........
You'll get regular headlights.........

Yeah, insurance companies suck. You'll have tell them what you've done to the car. The only problem is, if you did a motor-swap, they still might not cover it...especially if you used a JDM motor. When I swapped motors in one of my race cars, they wouldn't cover it because I used a JDM mtoor in a USDM car and therefore the engine & chassis numbers didn't match up. I ended up switching insurance companies because of that. After calling around, I found a company that didn't care about the motor-swap as long as I had receipts to document the cost of the work/parts.

You'll get USDM prices or parts. Keep in mind if the insurance adjuster is smart he'll notice that your lights aren't DOT approved and they can place some of the blame of the accident on you. I don't know how but insurance companies will do quite a bit not to payout if they can. But, most likely the adjuster will not be so smart, so don't worry.
You need to choose your insurance companies more carefully guys!
Amica insurance; not the cheapest but by far the best. They gave me money for EVERY SINGLE MODIFICATION I did to my car when it was totalled. They took the price of the modified part (i.e. Tein coilover) and paid the difference in price between the coilover and a pair of stock springs/shocks. Of course, I had to present receipts, and labor was not included. Audio equipment was seperate. But still, I got about 9 grand for my car, when I was looking at about 6 grand tops. I was pretty happy with the results.
Geico doesn't cut it if you drive a nice car.

That's what happened to me. I had my insurance pay me up front and they got the money from the other insurance company.
I had to get the deductible back later, though. But it was worth it because it was only about a month for the deductible to be returned, too.

i have allstate and when i got my guage pod stolen from my car i got money for all of it. i didn't even need a receipt. all they required was that i show them a picture of it installed in the car. then they cut me a check for all the guages, the pod, AND installation. it owned. oh yea, and i didn't tell them it was there when i got the insurance, so i don't think you would need to tell them your car had mods.
it depends on the company too. USAA was very nice when it came to aftermarket parts. I came around a corner on a back road to find a rock had rolled into the road. I knew I couldn't get around it, the road was too small and all, so I tried to straddle it. It really messed up the engine mounts, ripped out the engine harness, etc.
USAA called and told me the car would be towed the up comming thurs and to get anything out I wanted. Well the shop holding the car ended up towing it wednesday. USAA called and asked if there was anything on the car I was unable to get out. I said about the strut bar, the aftermarket component sets I had put in only a few months before, and I think 1 other body part, and the added that onto the value of the car.
In the end I got 12,500 for a car I paid $11,200 for.. and had driven 22,000 miles :-P All in all, if the state would have admitted fault for not having falling rock signs, or a retaining wall along this road like they should, I would still be with USAA for the awesome service they provide and the way they handle the claim.
Other insurance companies my friends have delt with... aftermarket parts didn't count for crap.

my brother got in an accident with his bb1 vtec.. they replaced both USDM headlights with JDM 1piece headlights... because the cost of the usdm ones were pretty much the same if not more expensive than the jdm ones.
