I have a 93 Civic EX and my instrument panel lights will just cut off while im driving down the road and if I push in on the dimmer they will come back on but continue to cut off ocassionally. Loose connection somewhere? i'm not very bright with these things yet sorry if it sounds stupid. And Next...about 6 months ago I had to replace the plug that plugs into my driver side headlight because the one was melting? And it fixed that problem but now my passenger side light when i seitch from high beams to low beams will slowly dim down to almost null and my bright light indicator in dash is on on both high and low. Any help is appreciated thanks!

i know it sounds like a no-brainer, but have you checked fuses/connections?

 

Yea I've checked fuses but the connections to the instrument panel and dimmer seem to be hard to get to from what I can tell. And on my headlights I just dunno where to start...one of my fuses when I bought the car has a wire and the fuse is pushed in over the wire and I dont know why it's like that but I didnt wanna take it out and mess something up but I doubt thats the problem.

 

anyone else got anything in mind?

 

did you ever replace your headlights with higher wattage ones?

 

Simple simple simple i had the same problem take out the dimmer switch check all wires look k for example not burned if they look k just get a new dimmer switch and ur problema is solved

 

i put in sylvania silverstars thats the only thing i did

my dimmer switch failed and i just bypassed it altogether: jump the black wire to the non-red/blk wire (i forgot what color the 3rd wire is).

ok, i was just making sure you didn't buy some 90 watt ebay bulbs and melted the wires. silverstars are a good replacement bulb though.

 

Make sure all of the connectors are on your headlights very good.

Pull the harnesses back to see if they've melted at all.

I had a problem where my passengerside headlight went out, so on the way to the store to buy new headlights my driverside harness melted.

What I did was I pulled off the driverside connector, cut all of the wires, and soldered on new connector slot things. I then slid them over the lips of the lightbulb and crimped them to make sure they stayed on tight.

Since then I haven't had anymore dimming problems or problems with my passenger side hightbeam staying on.

 

alright all the wires seem to be in the connector pretty good should i just replace the connector anyway?

 

If the connector looks good and isn't melted any make sure that it is pushed onto the bulb all the way.

The reason I cut mine off and everything was because it was melted and was not staying on the connector clip thingys of the bulb.

I don't know if that makes sense or not, I don't know the technical term for the things I'm talking about.

Try pushing it all the way onto the bulb and test it to see if your problem goes away.

It sounds like you have a loose connection at your dimmer switch. I had this problem, and it turned out to be corroded contacts on the switch. I'd pull the switch out and make sure the connections are good and clean. If not, try sanding them down a bit. Also look to see if the wires are broken.

 

Sounds like a bad dimmer switch to me.

ok i pulled out the plug that goes direct into the bulb and its nasty looking its like melted/has like oil in it so im gonna cut the wire and replace the plug. Would the wires being messed up be the cause of my high beam indicator always staying on?

Don't cut the wire if it isn't damaged. Just unplug it from the switch and plug it into the new switch.
