Is there a reason other then look when people paint the hood of their car black?

Like the jdm'ed out CRX in the new honda tuning mag, or the ae86 in the initial d movie. At first I figured it meant an engine swap but then I figured I was just an idiot and it is probably just for looks. Does a black hood symbolize anything to the jdm crowd?

Maybe its too look more different from others - i thought they were mostly cf.

 

i think when it first started around here it was to cover up that you have a cf hood. now it think its more like hey i tricked you its not cf cause alot of people do it.

 

Everyone knows that black hoods make your car go faster.

 

Yeah, I did an 88 integra front end conversion on my ef hatch. I was debating whether or not to paint the hood black. I will post pics of the conversion when its fully done and painted.
