Default retuning after installing new pistons

whats up? i have heard different things from all the shops around where i live in regards to having to retune my car after putting in new pistons. i have type r on all stock internals running 7psi fully tuned on hondata s2000, ive been having some problems lately and i did a compression test and by the results it most likely should be piston rings. a friend of mine can get me a set of usdm oem pistons and rings for a cheap price, so i was planning on replacing them as a holdover until i can finally complete my whole build. so will i need to have my car retuned or since its the same pistons i could manage to slip by? thanks

seth

i would suggest having them retuned, no matter if you are changing compression in the motor or not there is going to be difference in a/f levels. as well when you replace the pistons etc. if you have cyliner wall damage then you are for sure going to have to re-hone the cylinder wall so you dont continue the same wear pattern or even have bad oil consumption problems. JMO, do it right i think you should just pick up some forged internals and spend about 1,500 and do it right.

i was planning on resleeving my block through erl or laskey racing. im in the process of saving the money to have my block and head all redone, so i am only looking for a temporary fix for a few months.

That's what I say. Or at least turn down the boost to the minimum. My internals only lasted 5 months at 6-7 psi. Hope you have some money. And hope that the ringlands didn't tear too much into your walls. I was lucky. Hopefully you are too. And at least deglaze the walls if they aren't scored. Run that hone over a few times to just give a quick crosshatch.
