Default can this be fixed?

I’m at work right now… I’ll probably take a picture when I get home and under my vehicle. But here’s a little description of the problem I’m having.

There is a rod looking… I believe to be the steering rack and pinion? Not sure but it has a boot like the axels. The rubber boot is ripped part. Somebody told me it will affect my vehicle steering-wise at high speeds and I am experiencing definitely that. My steering sort of has a mind of it’s own and jumps either left or right when I hit speeds of 65mph+. somebody said I might need a new rack/pinion. Thanks in advance.

That boot is your CV boot is torn and you'll need to replace it, the easiet way to do this is to just replace the axel. Replace this ASAP you don't want to drive on a bad CV joint.

you thinking of the boot on the rack? best thing I suggest is replace the rack. We have replaced the seal and boot on a few racks before with not great succes.

its not the axle, its part of the steering rack. I know what you're talking about. Mine is ripped too. Has been for 6 months or so now. I still haven't had any problems from it yet though.

Are your boots/ball joints from the tie rod messed up??? Those can be damaged after lowering if using a fork to seperate the tie rod from the suspension.

check inner and outer tie rods, and while your at it your front ball joints and suspension bushings. you hardly ever have to replace the rack unless it is leaking fluid or phsically damaged, though it can go bad.

did this steering issue happen all of a sudden? have you modified anything recently related to the steering that may have caused this(wheels/tires, suspension, i noticed you mentioned you had new axles)? when was the last time you got an alignment? i'd worry about all that stuff before you drop $300+ on a reman rack.

Looks like items 14 and 15 above which are on the tie-rod ends.
