Need help installing tranny back in. D16z6 tranny
well it was pretty simple to take the tranny off. But it is a pain in the *** to install it back in. I tried for several hours to line the spline up to the disc. And tried bolting the bolts in but it just wont line up. Should i just line the spline up and just bolt the bolts back in? Should i grease the spline up so it would be easier to go in? Any suggestion on how to install the tranny back in?
grease it if you absolutely have to, i pretty much think you are just dumb and cant line up some damn splines on a tranny

man that **** is though.
The clearance between shaft and hole is very minimal, so the shaft HAS to go in straight or it will not go in.
Best bet is to have a friend help, on lay under tranny to support it and another above to hold it and position it. It will eventually slip onto the shaft some but there may be like a finger gap between tranny and block.
At this point, you can start a couple bolts BY HAND TOOL and make sure as you tighten, the tranny moves closer to the block. IF it does not, take the tranny back off and try again.
I have had much success with this method but one time I was not paying attention and stripped the bolt hole cause the tranny was just not positioned right.
If you get the tranny on the shaft just right, it will pop on all the way to the block, no gap.

your suposted to grease the splines anyway and a bunch of other areas ex. clutch fork pivot points, bearings etc, and the tranny will go on its just a pain in the *** keep trying.
I feel for you. It's a total bitch to get the tranny to line up.
Every time I have done it I have been by myself on my back with the tranny on my chest pushing it up and trying to get it to line up.
It's usually frustrating as hell but eventually goes on. I think it would be a lot easier if you were under the tranny and had a friend above the car to help guide it into place.
Greasing up the shaft isn't really going to help that much, there is very little clearance between the shaft and the disk, it has to go on just right or it won't go on at all.
Just keep trying!! And get a friend to help if you can.
I am going to be going through the same thing this weekend when I change my clutch out, I am not looking forward to it at all!

You need to make sure the clutch is lined up with the pilot bearing. Check to make sure it is. When you think its lined up, check it again.
I have learned that the engine mount bolts are the same thread as the tranny bolts, only much longer. I use them to hold the in the correct angle and then slide it towards the block. Then remove them and install the proper bolts.
Buy the bolts from your Honda dealer.

You are the biggest moron I have ever seen here. You don't know anything about cars, you have no life, and you definately have no friends.

He's obviously never changed a tranny by himself before.
If he had, he would be a little more sympathetic, it's not as easy as it seems, especially if you don't have any help.

pull it back off the spline and try again.
I know it sucks but you gotta keep trying till you can get it on a little better.
Follow like I said earlier.

You are lining the clutch disk up with the pilot bearing before you try each time right?
Sounds like maybe you got the disk onto the spline but were unable to slide it into the flywheel.
Make sure you line it up really well with your alignment tool before you try each time.
Good luck! You will get it, it just takes some patience.

I know what you are going through. I have had my tranny out twice. Also dropped my friends B16 tranny out of his car to put in a new clutch and his was even worse than my D16Z6 tranny to get lined back up. Like these guys have said..keep trying and when you have had enough walk away and grab something cold to drink and just rest for 10 to 15 mins and cool down a little.
One thing I have found that has really helped me is once the shaft slips in a little way..get a 10pound rubber mallet and sit at the right front wheel well and start hitting the end of the tranny..this is the way I usually get it in.
I for one will never use the bolts to pull the tranny to the block..learned my lesson with that one on a dirt bike when I did something very similar and stripped the hole out and cracked the case at the same time.
P.S. Also even though its fustrating..Just keep telling yourself your glad your working a Honda anyways and not a damn Ford or Chevy.

i really apprepicate all the great advice i be getting.

Another thing that helps a lot is to make sure you have the engine block supported so you can slide the tranny in on it straight.
I feel for you. Even with a second person helping me guide it in, I held the damn tranny on my chest for the better part of 10 minutes last weekend.
