Default max tire size

What is the max size you can put on a 99 civic with the ITR suspension?I don't care about it changing the gear ratios or the speedo. That is what 400+WHP and hondata is for.Now that is out of the way.I have two sets of wheels to use 1st being 16x6 Mitsubishi OZ F1.. 2nd 15x6.5 5zigen. on the 16's I have ran 205/40/16-205/45/16 and 15's 205/50/15.I don't like having the rubberbands for tires anymore like the 16's have.so I was wanting the BFG KDW TT 215/50 or 225/50/16 and for the 15's 225/50/15 and have not picked a tire yet! But would like to try those in a BFG KD!The car is only going to be lowered about .50 or .75inch with full coilovers. The main thing I was looking for is the wider tire for traction and a taller tire so I can get out of the craters in the road without breaking or bending rims anymore. Thanks for any info.

Your best bet to avoid breaking/bending rims is to stick to the 15" wheels, rather than running too-tall tires.

How are 16's to tall?I'm getting old and tired of draging/breaking things beacuse of the rubber bands that they try to sell for tires.I tried to buy 17's off of discount tire for my car and they sent a tire with no sidewall and it was to narrow for the rim. That is what I see on most wheel/tire combos! With the 205/50/15 I was running the falken rt215 but still have trouble with potholes and the 16's with the 205/45/16 and had to replace 2 wheels. So what would you suggest for tires?I will not use anything that was made in Korea/China only USA/Japan!

You answer your own question in the next sentence:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by silver99hatch &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I'm getting old and tired of draging/breaking things beacuse of the rubber bands that they try to sell for tires.I tried to buy 17's off of discount tire for my car and they sent a tire with no sidewall and it was to narrow for the rim. That is what I see on most wheel/tire combos!</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yes, exactly. The reason that you are finding tires with very short sidewalls is that you are using bigger wheels. A car is designed to accept a tire with a certain outer diameter, and that is how the best tire size is determined. When you select a wheel diameter, every inch it's larger in diameter means that the sidewall is going to be a half inch shorter. If you want to avoid damaging rims when you hit potholes and such, your best bet is to use smaller rims, so that the sidewalls are taller - NOT by choosing the wrong tire size (with too tall a sidewall) for your rims.

Since you have a high-horsepower car, I will assume you care primarily about traction, and not about cost or treadlife. I will also assume you would like a super-sticky tire like the Falken Azenis RT-215 you were using. I recommend you get the new Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/50-15 and put those on your 15" wheels. The sidewall height with 205/50-15 is 4.0 inches, which is not particularly short for a performance car. If you're still having trouble with potholes in that size tire, then steer around them, or trade your car in on an SUV.

Thanks for that info so I think I will go with the 215/50/16 BFG KDW.It has a sidewall of 4.2". It is had to steer clear of them in the good old salt state of Ohio.I figure if I get those tires I can still drive my car this winter like I did with the NT555.The bad thing is that my car can still get around better than my F250 PSD.
If a 205/50/15 has to tall of sidewall why do they make the advans and falkens for racing?

That is a VERY BAD IDEA.

When a 15" tire has a sidewall height of 4.0 inches, that means the outer diameter is 23". That is fine - because that is pretty close to the stock outer diameter of 23.47 inches, within half an inch.

When a 16" tire has a sidewall height of 4.2 inches, though, that means that the outer diameter is 24.46 inches - a full inch more than stock, because you not only have a taller sidewall, but also a larger wheel diameter. This is a VERY BAD IDEA. In addition to slower acceleration, this size will almost certainly rub on your fender wells and/or suspension components.

I never said that 205/50-15 has too tall of a sidewall.

It seems you have difficulty understanding things that people explain to you over and over. If you don't want to bother reading and understanding the advice that people give you - apparently, this is a major challenge for you - then you shouldn't ask for advice.

You said that a 205/50/15 is not particularly short for a performance car.In case you have never seen a Honda/Acura they have to much fender well gap to begin with.So I don't think 1inch is going to kill me.As for being slower thats funny. There are people in this world that don't like to be track ****** all of the time!I take it that you have a nsx so you might want to go back to the 15's on a supercar. What do they do about the JDM DC2R!Damn the more I think about it I will have to take the 33's of of the F250 and skip the option of the tire that came with it and go for the 30's.Because Tirerack and discount said thats what it came with!I'm done with you.I was asking someone that might have done or tried it.That's all.Thank you
