Default CF hood question? i hear horror stories about...

CF hoods flying open..

I just got an OEM style CF hood and put it on last night on my 93 CX hatch...

thinkin about goin to the tracks tonight.... kinda scared it might pop open.

I havent had a chance to get the hood locks for them..

should i be safe or DONT push my luck?

how about 70mph on the freeway?

The thing is, the fiberglass skeleton that the CF hood is mounted on isnt strong enough to hold OEM latches. Very few companies can correctly make a true 'OEM' style CF hood that wont rip off. Use hood pins, not locks, and you'll be fine.

Only company i ever seen that does not have a recommended hood pin is Fiber Images. hoods are super light and super strong. but mines faded within a year and a half

The only times i've ever really seen someone's windshield shatter from a CF hood is at the track...take that as you may. Just keep it snug somehow, if you can get hood pins in it by tonight...

I've had a cf hood on my both my Civics, my Integra, and my S2K...all without hoodpins and NEVER had a single problem. The one Civic has seen 140+ and the Integra a bit over 100 while S2K saw speeds of 155+ on many occasions.

You gonna be traveling over 100 at the track? If not, then I'd say your safe.

Go out, run it up to 100 and check to see if your hood's is still there. If so, then you're good to go. If not, don't buy a cheap hood next time.

I highly recommend hood pins. But let me tell you my story about my freak hood anyway.

I got one of the first VIS CF hoods to come out before they changed it up. The style that didnt fit B series swaps. And let me tell you that hood has made it through hell and back with no probs. One day i forgot to push the hood down all the way so the hood was popped. I took for for work a little late and went flying down the freeway. Hit 90ish and looked at my hood and saw that ****** jumping like crazy. I slowed down and made it to work and first thing i checked the hood. Hood was popped i was like "oh **** that was dumb" put it down and never had a problem since. Took it to the track and everything ever had a problem. No hoodpins on it either.

i think fibergalss hoods are better. they are about the same in wight and they can be painted into any color. and you dont have to worry about clear coating it every year. i live in fl, its hot the whole year round dudes.

I'm sorry, but this is just stupid. Do you really think this helps..?

CF can be painted just the same as fiberglass; however most people want to show-off there blingin parts and choose not to.

If you insist on going to the track tonight.... duct tape as suggested. If not, don't test your luck and wait to get pins.

bungee cords are a lifesaver...if you want hood pins just run out to the closest parts store, most places like advance auto parts carry them

you have a point, i don't think they require hoods at most tracks, and no hood at all is lighter than a cf hood. just duct tape it good for the ride to the track.

to be completely safe i would use hoodpins or hood locks. if you use locks make sure to drill through the washers and hood so that the lock cannot rotate.

i have a carbon fiber one CF hood and ive driven up to about 115 and it has safely stayed on, no vibration or anything. so maybe you would be safe.

i have a 93 hatch as well.

ive been over 100 and mine didnt fly up...
done it several times.
even above 75 for long periods of time on the freeway and nothing has ever happened. 6 months w/o hood pins.

if the company you bought em from reccomends them, duct tape it...
but you should be ok.
