Default GSR Dual Stage Intake Manifold vs. B16 IM

I've never seen this really discussed on HT. But the dual stage GSR intake manifold (obd2)really seem to muffle vtec crossover. My friends has a 2k GSR and you can't hear vtec or feel it. It's just basically a lateral pull thru the whole rpm band. Not sure if honda wanted it this way instead of hearing and feeling the crossover.

So this leads me to this question. Would a 2k GSR sound more aggressive with a B16 IM or an ITR IM?? Has anyone mated an ITR IM to a GSR motor? And was it worth it??

As for obd1 GSR's ... damn.. that's a whole different story...you hear the vtec and feel it too.

Any comments?

you can't mate a b16 or a itr manifold. it has different bolt patterns. you can get a skunk 2. it based off the itr but it can fit the gsr head. someone told me to get the aebs. i heard that is good.

I've had two b18c1's both with skunk2 IM. Just remember that if you do this switch, you're going to have to go p30/p61/chipped p28 anything other than your stock GSR ECU.

It'd help to have it tuned as well. On stock mapping there's a dip before vtec when running a skunk2 IM. Hondata would be best, but a vafc will do.

Honda never designed VTEC to be heard. The reason you can hear it kick in on most of our cars is because of the modifications. The change is supposed to be slight and quiet... the idea is to keep a smooth curve on the powerband, not make noise. You can barely hear VTEC kick in on most stock Hondas.

The GSR intake manifold is unique because of its design, but it does flow very well. The Skunk2 would be a good intake manfiold as a replacement, I have also heard good things about AEBS.

you don't NEED to switch ECU's if you switch to a single runner IM. the ecu won't care (won't throw a light) if you don't have the butterlies hooked up. just get a nice tune.

IMO, the dual length intake made VTEC more pronounced (in both feel and sound) in my friend's old GSR w/ AEM CAI.

amen!!! someone finally said it. measuring your cars performance by how loud your vtec kicks in is silly. plus, the gsr intake manifold has nothing to do with your vtec cross over.

People always seem to think the louder their VTEC the faster they are going. =P

My point was that i want the OBD2's to sound like the OBD1's. That's all... nothing more.

I've been in both OBD1 and 2 GSR's. There's a considerable difference with sound and performance. Only intake... no other mods. Stock exhaust.

Maybe the point of my thread was misconstruded. But thanks for all the replies

I had a guy convinced for a half hour that I had VTEC on my D16Y7. I was light on the throttle, then at 5000rpm, I hit WOT and since I have a short ram intake with a foam filter, there was such a prominent change in power and sound, you'd think I had this changeover of VTEC. Who cares how loud it is? Thats like saying my BOV is better cause its louder.
