Default trying to install catback on my buddies LS teg, need quick tip

i have no knowledge of honda/ac as of right now as i do not own one, but i am extremely good with cars. my buddy got a catback for his basically stock LS teg and im doing the install for/with him. the exhaust bolts right up to the back of the cat but i can't get the stock cb off the cat. although i do think its just rust, it literally looks like the bolts are welded on. i tried penetrator with no avail.

what do you suggest i do? is there a trick? am i going to have to grind off/cut the catback off and redrill holes for the new exhaust to bolt up?
thanks for your help

Don

damnit al shutup lol

i thought i might add that the exhaust did come with 3 new bolts to accomodate the cat flange. if i just take a saw and cut off the stock bolts, will the flanges seperate and allow me to simply bolt up the new piping?

thanks again

um? stfu and gtfo.

You have any air tools available? Try a Impact if you can. Soak the nuts in WD-40 or PBlaster. They are just simple nuts dude, either way they are **** so just power them off.

if you saw off the nut you will saw off the threaded bolt behind it.

::EDIT:: I'm not sure if the bolts on the cat come off, but check and I'm sure if they do you can just saw them off.

yea i soaked them in penetrator and wd40 and either way, the nuts would just strip down to nothing when i tried to torque them off. there is no sense in using an impact gun in my case. do you reccomend i just remove the whole center section (including unhooking the o2 sensor in the cat) and grind off the bolts?

go to a muffler shop and have them cut the bolts. or just use an impact gun.

just cut the bolts off and tap the rest out of the hole on the cat. flange. the bolts on that flange just go through the whole.. its not like its a threaded hole and they will get stuck in there.. cut them off with a cutoff wheel and then replace the bolts as you said you have. what kind of catback is he going with and who is your gf i used to go to MO too.
good luck

it is a pain to get the top bolt loose. I used a nuckle and a long extension. It will finally give.

I removed the two bolts on the other side of the catalytic converter, then unbolted the catalytic converter and bolted it to the new exhaust.

The bolts in the cat (catback side) are fixed into the cat, and push through the catback.

With enough work you should be able to break them loose, I worked on mine for hours before using a wrench and hammer and finally breaking them out, but then with some cleanup I was able to reuse them.

If you cut them, you will have to then pound them out of the cat somehow and get new ones, pain...

take out the cat from the header too then. makes it easier when you have leverage on the bolts. btw nice VW

Shop usually cuts em out with a gas wrench(torch) and tap em out.
