I have 93 hatchback with a usdm gsr in it. I believe i have around 70k on the motor. I have a skunk2 manifold, headers, intake and exhaust. I also have a p28 ecu custom to my mods. I was considering to go turbo, and i wanted to know what i will need to get. I also wanted to know how much boost is safe to push on a stock usdm gsr. How much horsepower would i have boosting a safe amount? Is it worth to do? And will my car still be just as relaible as it is now? Is it possible to do a set-up for around 1500 or so? Would i need lsd?

 

Honestly search...!!! but imo, don't turbo it... what the **** does LSD have to do with a turbo? They are different things completly.. turbo engine.. lsd tranny.....
when you learn about turbo's and the rest of it... then do it man, but honestly you don't have enough knowledge to even drive a turbo car...

 

im in that situation as well and i feel that maybe in a year or so you will be able to go FI ....but know your car is a good way to start

 

You can build a setup for about 1500 and you can boost 15+ psi depending on how much tuning you do. I'll have a mod move this to FI.

 

i don't think he cares about his tranny right now, I just think he didn't know what LSD was lol, I think he thought it had something to do with the turbo lol

Make sure you do research. I wouldn't turbo a stock gsr motor purely because its compression is too high. lower it to 9.1:1. But just do A LOT of research. it may come to the point were turbo is not even right for you.

 

lol, let him turbo the car, but like he said above lower the compression with pistons and rods

 

I have a b18c in my 94 hatch for 3 months and then I turbo'd it. It's a lot of money and it adds up. I initially spent $2000 for the whole turbo kit and probably added an extra grand. Other than the initial kit... you have to think about other things like tuning. Tuning + an ems is expensive! That alone can cost you anywhere from $500-1000. And trust me its well worth it. Untuned you can easily damage your motor plus you'll gain so much power out of it.

 

seriously, don't talk to him about tunning **** and what not... I think he has to understand about turbo's and stuff...

It all depends on what your horsepower goals are. If it was my car and these are just my opinions only... If you're looking only to gain 200-250whp range, I'd probably recommend a 50 shot of nitrous. For around 250-275whp, I would probably go with a jackson racing supercharger for street and reliability. If you want more than 300+ whp... I would probably think about upgrading a lot of other parts first before even considering that turbo.

 

Ok i appericiate ur help on my questions, but u guys misunderstood me about lsd because i didn't elaborate on it. What i meant was would it be hard to for the tires to catch if i dont have lsd? Im not looking for alot of horsepower. I just want a quick car, and i was only thinking about boosting a max of 7psi. I know my motor can handle about 10 stock but that is pushing it. If i just got a turbo and boosted around 7 how much gain will i have? and will it be worth doing if i dont get pistons or rods, or lsd?

 

lsd is limited slip differential, so it will give you more traction and it will be harder to spin tires

no you don't need lsd......, but it won't hurt to have.. it's one of those things....

 

see the problem is when u post something on here and u make a stupid mistake everyone goes all crazy and they drift from the main point.

 

do this. go buy a dsm turbo and dsm 450cc injectors then boost like 8 psi. dont go buying a full greddy turbo kit running you like 2000 dollers. start small and low boost then gain sum experience and knowledge then go all out. thats my opinion.

 

oh and a dsm cheap turbo set up should run you around 500-800 dollers that is if you do the labor yourself but heres a start go to http://www.homemadeturbo.com
