Default CD5 Automatic - Won't Come Out of Park

Ok, had this problem 2 days in the past week now, it comes and it goes....

My car sometimes when you start it won't come out of park, its only once in awhile, it happened today and thursday. When it acts up it seems like it don't want to recognize "D4" as it won't ligt up in the cluster, and when it don't light up the car runs like ****, it seems like it don't know what gear it wants to be in.. I am a noob to automatics, its my first.

Other than that 95% of the 2 months I have had the car it runs great, just slow compared to my B16 G2 Teg daily driver I sold.

Anyone had similar problems? If so whats the fix? Thanks in advance.

...i went through something similar with my other car (..sold already..).. the mechanic said it was a cable, and that was affecting the RPM's as well... and it could turn into a bigger problem, driving the tranny to break down....

check the brake light switch. because when you step on the brake pedal you usually hear a clicking noise that lets you take it out of park. the brake light switch is what allows you to take it out of park. so i would replace the brake light switch.

Wouldn't that make the brake lights not work?

no the lights would still work there's just a switch that for example once the break pedal passes a certain point it disingages(sp?) the little pin or w/e it is that stops the shifter from moving...tech. speaking u can just bypass it but then u create a lot more problems

Replace the switch and see what happnes!

No... i didn't fix... but the mechanic (..whom i trust...), say that the cable was the problem... ...but i sold the car the way it was.... ...and that ... was making the gears to shift harder sometimes....
...that's why i decided to go 5sp....
..automatic is a lazy thing, and after a few weeks.. you get used to it and... ....no more automatics....

Would it be #15 on this diagram? If so is that a decent price?

Trust me this prob. will be the only Auto I will ever purchase, atleast I still have another 5 spd teg. I bought this accord to be "practical" for a daily driver becuase I am on the road alot for work.

Is the problem with your Accura or your 94 Accord? The 94 Accord does not have any cable. Its all driven off of the selector switch which tells the TCM what gear your in. You either have a gummed up/faulty switch or your TCM is taking a dump. I have one for sale by the way if you determine yours is bad. I'd check the selector switch first but it a job as you have to take the console apart and get the shifter assembly apart to an extent and then get this switch out which is a SOB to do as its in a cramped space. Remove it, take it to a bench and carefully take it apaer and carefully clean all of the contacts inside. Reassemble and try it out, it there is no change then your TCM is probably going bad. If you mean your Accura, I'm not sure if that early of a year had a cable or a switch.

The problems with my CD5 Accord, I have a similar problem only when its cold my my 92 Integra Automatic that my girls drives daily, but like I said it only happens when its REALLY cold on the G2. My other 2 G2's are 5 speeds.

I think it is the switch in the pedal that lets it dis-engage into gear from park, when it wouldn't go in gear last night when I pressed on the pedal I couldn't hear the "click" that you usally hear when you depress the brake and put it in gear... So is this the switch you have for sale?

Thanks for your response

No, I have a Transmission Control Module for sale. I was having a D4 light problem and swapped it out with a known good one, and it did not fix the problem. So now I have a known working spare. If you cannot move the shifter handle, check the switch attached to the brake pedal as mentioned earlier, if this is working OK, you will need to disassemble the console and get to the shift lock solenoid, lever and spring assembly and give it a good cleaning so its moving freely. If it works most of the time, I'd tend to think that the pedal switch is working and your solenoid and lock lever is gummed up.
