Default Windshield replacement?

My boss just got his BMW Z3 windshield replaced here outside our office yesterday. I asked the guy about doing mine. I asked about getting an OEM windshield, but he said he deals with PPG and Viracon windshields anyway and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. BS!! I came back after lunch and the boss's new windshield is all wavy, looks like total @$$.

So is a $400 OEM Honda windshield my ONLY choice for getting glass that is worth a damn?

BTW guy quoted me $165+tax to come out and replace my glass right here on-site.

time for a junkyard run. over here right next door to the junkyard there is a windshield replacement place, they just get all there used oem windshields from the cars in the yard.

otherwise if you know you're not gonna be happy with the 3rd party windshield then spending the $400 is the only way you'll get peace of mind while you look at the thing every damn day.

I'm just wondering if the junkyard ones are in decent shape.

I just want a new one because mine looks totally sandblasted from years of highway driving, and has several chips. It's not actually broken or cracked or anything.

My brother had his replaced on site for about the same price as you and it looked fine to me, then again thats why it's a 3rd party, kind of hit or miss...

I got one from a mobile autoglass when i broke mine.... Im pretty sure it was safelite....

http://www.safelite.com/

Only like 180 bucks and looks BADASS... no waves or leaks or anything. Supposedly a few lbs. lighter but stronger too.

Did it in my parking structure at my job in less than an hour.

Badass warranty also.

i've been through 3 windshields... original.. aftermarket and now original again... i couldn't tell the difference between the $400 oem and the $200 aftermarket..

the only reason why i went back to oem again was when my aftermarket got smashed, i got a free oem glass from a "scrap parts" teg my pop has at his shop..

hmm well I've seen many cheap windshields that look soooo wavy and horrible. That's why I'm always wary of them.

I had an aftermarket driver side window installed after my driver door was smashed, and it was quite wavy, as well. I ended up putting the factory glass in that the bodyshop got with the used door (they gave me all the spare door parts for free).

They will show you the glass... move it into the light and check it out... refuse it if it is wavy.

I'm using a non-oem windshield and it works fine. Paid 150 for it installed.
