hey guys, ive got a major problem. guy came to my shop with a 96 dx hatchback civic.
engine was knocking (friend of a friend from out of town tried to rebuild it)... i pull the engine and rebuild it. put it in and it runs great. one problem

tranny wont upshift.

park- works
neut- works
rev- works
d4- starts in second then shifts to third, never to first or fourth
d3- starts in second then shifts to third, never to first or fourth
2- engages first gear, but wont shift out AT ALL.

ive checked the entire wiring harness, continuity, resistance, the whole nine yards.
no trans codes from the d4 malfunction indicator light
no check engine light.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!

ive already replaced the tranny, and tq. converter once. both trannys have done the same thing! my boss picked up an ecu after i left the shop last night, so hopefully its the right one and it works. any suggestions are greatly apreciated. i need all the help i can get right now. Thanks in advance.

well if u have replaced with 2 diff transmissions
sounds like ecu/wiring
or maybe the valve that does the work on tranny (do you have 2 of those or are u swapping from one tranny to another)
