transmission problem?
I have an automatic .....96 acura integra...LS..
OK here is my problem. The car is running....but its in "park"....as I push down the break ....i hear a clicking noise....coming from the P,D,R,N PANEL...but it goes right into drive..and it works fine. The clickikng noise..happens right when i push down on the break when it is in park. can anyone maybe diagnose this problem.

hmm i wish i had an automatic car to play with right now, but i would guess that it's a solenoid that controls the engagement of the clutch. the clicking would be the sound of the solenoid going back and forth through some range of motion.
should I have any big concern about it? Should I get it looked at? I had a feeling it was some instrument in that panel creating that noise.
actually you did say it sounded like it was coming from the shifter area. have a friend lean over the engine with the hood open while you have it in park and hit the brake pedal and ask the person if he/she hears it from on the top or back of the trans. lots of times things that sound like they're coming from the shifter area are really coming from the engine bay.
If its coming from the engine bay of my car.....whats the worst case scenario. AS I mentioned before ....the car has no problems shifting in and out of gears....it doesn't slip...turning is precise.....no definitive symptoms of a failed transmission. No leakage....I checked the tranny fluid, and its full.

yea its perfectly normal. its a safety switch so it wont come out of park. you have to press the brake down until it clicks to pull it out of park.

first of all there is no clutch and secondly the noise is just the shift lock

autos have clutches, too. well, it's not exactly like a clutch and pressure plate from a manual but it fulfills the same job. not to mention the torque converter is basically a clutch [pack].

i had an auto. its normal dude. its your shift lock thing kicking in. when you press the brake down it clicks and allow you to shift gears. its there so if your in park, you have to have the brake down to get into drive. its all normal in a life of an auto.
