Default Need expert suggestions for improved gas mileage...

I recently bought a 1990 Integra for my gf's father and did the usual maintenance items:

New Plugs/Wires/Distributor Cap
Cleaned IM/Injectors/Throttle Body/FITV/IAC
New Intake Filter
New Fuel Filter
New O2 sensor
New PCV valve

But somehow, he is still averaging only 16mpg in the city. I know this can't be right. Anything else I should look for? The guy I bought it from had a recently newer head so valves should've been adjusted then. I was thinking of checking the EGR but not sure if this makes a big difference in fuel mileage.

wow that sucks, well for one if its not an automatic then it doesnt have an EGR valve. if the cat is really clogged that could cause part of the problem, but you would also notice a drivability problem (IE hesitation). What is the timing set at?

He does have a lead foot sometime but he's been driving like a granny lately to see if it would make a difference.

Yes it is an automatic so it does have the EGR valve. Clogged cat seems doubtful since driveability and power are fine. I will check the timing but I don't think it would affect the fuel mileage that much.

Sorry, I should've clarified that I was talking about ignition timing. Cam timing is spot on. Anyone else experience something similiar?

I had the same problem with my DA. I did all the routine maitenence that you said you did, checked my cat, checked my cam timing, and lone behold. it was my injectors. they were fu*ked as all hell. try running a couple tanks of gas with lucas injector cleaner. that helped alot. now im average 25/30mpg street/highway. Good luck with that though.

Some shops also can do the injector cleaning for like 50 bux or so. They run injector cleaner directly into the fuel rail to clean the injectors. But I guess you could try the in the tank stuff. Did you use the seafoam yet? That will sometimes work miracles.

I thought it was my injectors too so I replaced them with low mileage injectors and still didn't help. I'm thinking of checking my fuel pressure just to make sure my regulator isn't faulty or anything.
