i bought my 94 ls about a week ago after an *** decided to total my 95.....supposedly the owner said that theres a 2000 tranny in there. Of course he also said that the only thing wrong with it was the ac compressor and the ps pump...turns out the alternator was bad (got stuck in the middle of the freeway....at night) he screwed up wiring on this car, the whole ac system is ruined, and the hoses not the pump is bad. he also said that the had new axles, cept they were clicking and throwing grease. anyways, needless to say he wasnt very reliable. i want to find out if there really is a 2000 transmission. the car feels like its geared different too, so im wondering if its a gsr tranny. the badge on it though fell off, i hope he didnt buy it stolen >, is there any other way to tell what type of tranny it is without the badge?

 

No not really. You'll have to pull the case off and look at the diff/final drive.

 

well, if its a 96+ tranny, it should have the vin tag on it(parallel to the flywheel)

 

the tag fell off....or was taken off

 

There's no way you can tell what year the tranny is without the vin plate unless you take apart the tranny like the previous guy stated.
