WEST COAST NHRA SERIES??What do you guys think?
Hopefully Mr. Peterson and Mr. Skelly Will see and maybe consider something for the upcoming seasons.
Due to the Bolting Prices of Fuel and traveling. I was talking to a few people and came up with an idea.
What if they had a west coast NHRA series. For an example:
Phoenix- Arizona
Salt Lake City - Utah
Pamona- California
Sanoma- California
Bandimere- Colorado
Woodburn- Oregon.
Las Vegas- Nevada.
Seattle- Washington
I know the turnout's would be Sick! Sick! Sick!
Got the Word From Ron Craft (Drag Strip Manager for RMR) of SLC Utah. He would be in on this.
Come on Guys Look at the Las Vegas turnout. 20 plus Cars for SFWD, 10 Cars for Hotrod! Now how often do you see that.
Ron and a few others are in the process of talking to NHRA.
This would be a solution to all and maybe they could have a championship towards the end of the year. West Coast vs. East Coast.
I want to know what your guys opinions would be and who would be in on this?
Maybe i could start a list to see who would be in as well. It's time for NHRA to start recognizing the West Coast scene. So much unknown talent out there. I don't want this Sport to Fizz out.
Who would participate and how many of the events would you compete in?

I would do this for sure! I would still have to drive to the East for sponsors but it would be nice to have some more races closer to home.

Count me in for atleast 5 or 6 and don't forget Seattle Raceway In Kent, WA. I would compete in quick16 or all motor!
i remember mentioning something like this last year for IDRC, but nothing ever happened.
It is time for the west coast to have something. Nopi is mainly east of the mississippi so NHRA can be west and a title for the best meet in texas at the end of the season. NHRA vs. NOPI...get a sponsor to promote it...i know something like that can work. hopefully!

couple of things...
1 - message boards on the internet are a bad gauge of interest for everyone. It always sounds great, and you have tons of people interested, but when it comes time to put down the cash, most people will flake out. Take a look at how many people say they are going to a certain NHRA race. You'll get at least 25% of people who SAY they are going to show up flaking out. And that's something that's fairly easy to plan for!
2 - I don't think the NHRA wants to do that. What would make the california pro teams (bothell, steph, skunk2, bergenholtz, scott kelley, lookofsky, the list goes on) hit up the rest of the series? no more skunk2 vs prayoonto, no more bothell vs GM, no more steph vs 2jz world on the east coast, etc.
3 - why would NHRA want to step DOWN from a national series to a regional series? if anything, the people likely to do this is IDRC (since battle likes the small markets and NOPI is based on the east coast). But i'm not so sure that IDRC will be around much longer...
it all sounds good on paper. but think bigger

Your confusing me? The majority races are on the east coast, why not include more west coast races.
And as for conflicts. Rumor has it that the bothell car isn't going to run next year. You still want to keep it like it is with 4 car fields on pro fwd and pro rwd. Look at the turnouts when they have a race in the west? Big! This would be a good thing for NHRA. Expand is what needs to be done. Soo many racers on the west coast that can't afford to go and race the circuit on the east. I think it isn't stepping down at all. That doesn't make sence to step down to go watch full field classes racing. I think thats what we need . NHRA is losing interest in 2-4 cars a class racing. IMO

I have talked to alot of the boys in hotrod and upcoming profwd, they will chime in soon enough. Come on bro your from California represent it would be good on your behalf as well.
u can deff count me in i would love thast to happen but rmr will deff have to spend some money on preparing there track better and get rid of the shitty crap the substitute for vht
I'm pretty much sure they would have considered that already! Come on NHRA is based on the West Coast. You also have to consider time and effort along with FUNDS to do this. Weather isn't great in the summer time with high temperatures. Just imagine having a event at Firebird in July?
I've talked to the NHRA moving around there schedule and relocating to different tracks but they say it is very hard to do. Sponsors, approval from tracks, Noise restrictions, alot of those pose why there are limited events... I wish there were more events for the west coast guys.

I think its a great idea. We hope as HOT ROD competitors that more cars will show up. A West Coast event would create a intrest for somee of the SPFWD cars to move forward and compete with wheelie bars and lighten up. then eventually some will progress to PRO FWD. its the stepping stone to help rebuild a class and series.West Coast Fans might start getting interested as they will see familiar up and coming faces at the tracks near them. I have a good source that talked to one of the head honchos @ Vegas. He said it was a good idea. So you never know it just might be in the works.
Plus thats why you would have phoenix as one of the first races in the spring just like this year for nopi.

yes it does get hot here in the west coast but look how many events get rain delayed or rescheduled because of rain. personally i'd rather deal with hot weather then traveling to the east coast only to get a rain check...

seattle and portland are rain magnets...
but as far as tracks - NHRA won't race unless the track is NHRA certified.
so woodburn / phoenix / pomona / vegas / bandimere are good. is Utah NHRA sanctioned? is sonoma still? i know they used to be, not sure if they are now. i know Seattle isn't... and doubt they would put in the effort to get sanctioned, as they are more focused on nascar up there right now...
