Default Mini-me vtec loud but no power?

My bro has a mini-me swap in his crx. d16a6 block with sohc vtec zc head.. well everything used to seem fine but now when vtec engages it is EXTREMELY loud but there is no power from it...it used to just cross over to vtec and you could fainltly hear it like how it is on most sohc vtec motors and there was a noticable pull... now it seems theres not much power from the motor and when vtec gauges its just really loud but makes no power from it, what is going on ?

did u convert to a obd1 and ue the p28 ecu? if not there is your answer. cause if u went the cheap *** route and just wired vtec to a vafc or a switch then you get the result you have.

oh and did you take out the pin in the block before you put the head on? if not then your not getting the oil pressure needed to activate vtec

who was that response to? and, yes, I took the oil jet from the a6 block. And if it is to me, that doesn't answer my question.

well see wierd thing is that when my cousin had his 95 ex coupe.... it has like 250000 miles and his vtec was loud as hell (car has full apex n1 exhaust, dc headers, and an apex intake)vtec in it was so noticibly loud that alot of people were like is that a dohc motor and he was just like no the vtec is just really loud, and the funny thing is that his car was slow as hell.... it had a badass vtec changeover, but slow as hell.... he dropped a new motor in it thinking that it was just a shitty motor with too many miles on it, put the new motor in, loud *** vtec but still slow as hell, and then after like 4-5months he was like maybe my cat is clogged cause it has hella miles on it, he took off the cat saw that all of those honeycomb deals were clogged, he got a high-flow threw it on and the loud vtec was gone, but it pulled incredible harder then before, like oh my **** dude!!!, vtec is still there and everything but its just not like "b-series sounding vtec anymore"... i tell you this story cause your case seems very familiar to this one... and also cause it started to happen after your bro got his new exausht.... but that's just my two pennies

yeah sounds exactly like whats happening on my brothers car, its only been like this since he got a custom exhaust made at a muffler shop...I think they fucked something up and the exhaust is being blocked.. his car is also noticably quiter than before and sometimes on turns you can hear it normal again (kinda weird)

but yeah the vtec crossover is sooo loud its like a b20vtec with stage 4 cams and ITBs or sumthing

There's a hole for something. I think its for the vtec oil pressure switch (or so I was told). Do i just plug it up with a bolt since I'm wiring the vtec to a shift light?

okay man..now that you have the exhaust flow....get out the timing light....advance that **** about 1-3 degrees BTDC....then add maybe 1LB of fuel pressure....

just a ?..what size exhaust is it?
Friend of mine has a EG and slow *** vtec that basically doesn't even "kick in"
I think it has to do with the vtec head itself but hey never owned VTEC myself, so i got no room to talk

yeah i think the problem here is either timming or fuel pressure...

i had this issue a while ago in one of my daily drivers, i was running a PM6 with a stock d16z6, and i recall when i put a B16 FPR regulator vtec would kick in alot better then with the stock z6 FPR....

as for timming, if u put the belt on and your one tooth off, the car will run like crap, but it will still run, check everthing it aligned at TDC and then barrow a timming light to get the motor on time, then from there advance it a bit if u would like...

the timing was perfect as far as I know unless it decided to skip a tooth.. im going to have to check the soleniod, check timing, and check the exhaust

I had the same exact problem with my B16. Turned out, I got the power back after fixing an exhaust leak right before the cat.
