Default help...

when i turn on my civic, before it would idle to 3k rpm n gradually go down to 1k within a 2 minute timespan, but recently when i would turn on the car, it would crank for a long time, and the rpm needle would go back and forth between 1 and 2k and then jump to 3k and then back down. while this is happening theres some kick back going on in the exhaust and it sounds like the car is going to die. i replaced the spark plugs thinking that was the problem but i guess it wasnt, any thought on what it can be?

Is the motor's rpms actually changing or is the cluster just going nuts? I have never heard of a car warming up at 3k rpm.

well it used to warm up from 3k because my civic has an h22 swap, but yea it is actually the motor, can it be cuz of the ditributor cap, or fuel injectors

my car was just doing this...

http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/Badidle.php

it can be a number of things...

run through the steps on that page and you should fix it.

my idle screw needed an adjustment, but more commonly it's your FITV.

There's a little plastic screw inside... the site goes into detail. check that first...

good luck.

3k is high for any honda engine including the H. You should idle at 1500 cold, 750 warm +-200.
